Will the super 6 tournament actually go the distance? Remember what happened with the HBO tournament which got Bowe the shot at Holyfield instead of the mandatory challenger Ruddock. Ruddock fought Lewis and Bowe fought Holyfield, Bowe didnt fight the winner of Ruddock Lewis! There was the superfighter tournament in Australia a couple of years ago that never happened! Remember this, Hard road to glory series, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r04DEoixT0E Ruiz vs Jones jr for the WBA belt Byrd vs. Holyfield for the IBF belt The winners were to fight each other to unify the belts and then fight Lewis for the Undisputed title! Jones beat Ruiz but didnt fight Byrd! and the whole thing was forgotten about.
I wonder about the guy (and there'll likely be one) that loses his first 2 fights - he'd still have a third fight against a top opponent and likely have almost no chance to advance. Someone in career survival mode could play hell with the tourney. There really is alot that could go wrong - HUGE kudos for trying it, but it could end up ugly (questionable injuries, accusations of tanking it). In a perfect world, Bute, Kessler, Froch and a Ward/Dirrel winner (or maybe Abraham) do 4-guy elimination tournament. Not enough Americans, I know, but I do think this is too many fights for things to hold together.
I believe it will happen: I cant see Froch or Kessler pull out, they are not the types. And where else would Ward and Dirrell make big money right now, it depends offcourse also on the payment structure of the 50 mill$ Taylor proberly knows that this is his left chance? The only little risk i see, is if Abraham dosent feel well at SMW. Also both Abraham and Kessler are Sauerland fighters, the co. behind the idea of the tournament. so it would not go down well if one of them pulled out of the tournament. Kessler cant aford to get in trouble with a new promotor, so he will be in it to the end no matter.
