The "promise of good future fights" is always there. They mean nothing if all they are is 'talks'. I used to be positive canelo would eventually face 3G, but not so certain now. Actions speak louder than words.
It's true though. Canelo was attempting to rematch Mayweather, he reached out to Mayweather he did everything he could to get that fight, but Mayweather wanted no part of a Canelo rematch. Floyd ran back down to 147 never to return to JMW. What was Canelo supposed to do? He had no path to recapturing his title, so he did non-title fights 1 lb over LMW. Why you ask? Why not? Those fights weren’t for titles so why stress over making 154? Also you got to remember that he had just come off having to drain himself to 152 for Floyd, and that surely took a toll on his body. Cash grabs and belt grabs are goals of all boxers. You’re acting like being the cash cow and becoming WBO Champ is a bad thing lol. I wanted to see Canelo fight Smith, I thought it was a good matchup, though Smith didn’t perform as well as I hoped and it was more one-sided than I thought it would be. But you can’t blame that on Canelo, not his fault Smith got cut in training and couldn’t spar. I want to see Canelo compete at MW and fight Golovkin for all the marbles. I think the Chavez fight is acceptable, not for the Lineal MW title because Chavez can’t make MW, but just as a sure sign that Canelo’s moving up to MW from 154.
Look, we both want to see Canelo fight Triple G. If this fight is gonna get made, both sides need to show each other more respect. I've stated that I respect Triple G as a fighter, but I haven't seen Canelo get that same respect back. I mean we have 80% of the people voting here thinking that GG vs Jacobs is for the Lineal Title!! I think there needs to be a reality check regarding what Canelo has accomplished in the sport. This is building up to be a great year in the Middleweight Division, don't we both want to see this fight Happen in September?
Anyone who thinks ducknelo is still lineal champ is an idiot and dosen't understand the rules surrounding the lineal title
Has 3G been disrespectful towards Alvarez? I haven't seen anything from Golovkin I would call as being disrespectful. Look Shadow, nothing I say influences whether these guys fight in September. Of course I want to see it. But sh*t man...we've seen this all play out before, dangling a fight in front of fans only to have it backfire. You have to art least understand why some would consider this a fight for the MW lineage. I mean, are you even looking at what I have said? Canelo won he MW title. And proceeded to give it up almost immediately. So big whoop, he did not say the magic words, "I give up my title", but his ACTIONS are suggesting otherwise. Moved down in weight AFTER dropping title, only tio win a new title in a different weight class. Has his NEXT fight at SprMW FFS. It's clear canelo is not even trying to defend his MW title, or acknowledge it exists. So you say 80%$ act like it's for the linear MW title. Well, look at what people are dealing with. Even if you don't agree with the premise of this thread, you should at least acknowledge those who DO agree, at least have a point to consider. Speaking of which, it feels like you aren't addressing anything I've said in counter to Canelo's MW title claim. So if you aren't going to, and are going to more or less, repeat the same stuff again above, no need to reply. I already read it.
I think that 80% are voting for who they think should be recognized as the lineal champ, not who will be the lineal champ regardless of GGG-Jacobs (Canelo).
Has Triple G been disrespectful towards Alvarez?? UHHH, KIND OF !! Triple G said “Give me my title” when Alvarez was WBC Champ. The way he said it was surely disrespectful towards Alvarez reign, like Triple G was entitled to have Alvarez’s title just handed over to him. Sanchez has said some things also but it’s all water under the bridge at this point. I thought the way Triple G had the WBC in his backpocket putting all these timetables on Canelo was also disrespectful. Triple G in my view should have allowed negotiations to occur naturally rather than using the WBC to do his bidding for him. I can understand why some people don’t recognize Canelo as a MW champ for dropping the belt, but I can’t understand why some people would think that Golovkin vs Jacobs would be for the Lineal Title!!! I mean seriously, to be the Man you need to BEAT the Man. Like it’s not just a catchphrase. You can’t just establish a new lineage because you feel like it. Canelo Alvarez is the Lineal Middleweight Champ until somebody beats him at Middleweight, or he retires or something significant happens to where he won’t be returning to the division. This isn’t a hard concept. There is absolutely no reason to establish a new lineage at this time and it’s not even close! Canelo has made every effort to make a fight with Golovkin for September. There is no doubt that his goal is to beat Chavez and fight Golovkin in September for the Lineal Title and for Golovkin’s titles. I acknowledge that those who voted for the winner of GG vs Jacobs as Lineal Champ do have points to consider, which is why I’m engaging here, but it still remains an unequivocal fact that Canelo is the Undisputed Middleweight Lineal Champion and that the winner of GG vs Jacobs will NOT become Lineal Champion.
Possibly, but the poll was "Who will be the Lineal Champ" not who you think should be. Again, the Lineal Champ is a fact based thing, it's not like P4P or something which is peoples opinions.
To be UNDISPUTED, you not only MUST be a unified titlist, but you must own the 3 MAIN Championship belts, the WBA, the WBC, and the IBF. GGG is not only the UNDISPUTED MW Champion of the World, but he's also the IBO MW King, and very well may be the WBO MW king as well come summer.
That's very true. But these polls always get twisted to be honest, you'd probably get a similar result regardless whether you asked: "Will the winner of GGG-Jacobs be the lineal champ?" "Will GGG beat Canelo?" "Who do you like more, GGG or Canelo?" "Who's the better p4p fighter, GGG or Canelo?" "Is Canelo ducking GGG?"
To be clear, I said Alvarez was Undisputed "Lineal" Middleweight Champion not Undisputed Middleweight Champion. To be Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World, you need to be Lineal Champion and Hold All Major Titles, Including the WBO. Golovkin cannot be Undisputed Middleweight Champion without Fighting Alvarez Period. Also, if Golovkin does not fight Alvarez in September for some reason, then Alvarez as WBO Light Middleweight Champ has the inside track on fighting Billy Joe Saunders for the MW WBO Title. One month ago when Alvarez made his intentions of moving up to MW official, the WBO immediately installed Alvarez as Saunders mandatory.
3 belts is enough for the undisputed title. It was enough for Lewis, Holyfield and is certainly enough for GGG.
