Even if Chavez were to beat Canelo, Canelo would still be the Lineal Middleweight Champion because Chavez will be weighing in above 160 lbs, the Middleweight limit.
Interesting. I thought he lost his status as the lineal champion when he vacated his MW title. All of this started with Cotto after he beat Martinez. The lineal championship at MW has been held hostage by two guys in specific that only want to have catchweights in the division. Sad to see how the MW division has unfolded the last couple years.
I don't think held hostage is the right word to describe the Lineal Championship at Middleweight. An example of having a Lineal Championship held hostage is at Light Middleweight since 2013. Yes the Middleweight Championship has been defended at catchweights, but it's better than it not being defended at all. Cotto and Canelo were really Light Middleweights who moved up to MW and won the title. Canelo now is on his way to becoming a full Middleweight though, and in September surely Alvarez will compete at the full limit of 160 lbs. (vs Golovkin or Saunders)
That's the level of disrespect you are talking about? If that's disrespect to you, you might want to thicken that hide of yours Shadow. This is literally nothing. But if it bothers you, then it looks like you are looking for something to be bothered on and settled for what you could find. WTF?? You think the WBC was in 3G's backpocket? That's just silly. Has it occurred to you that the WBC did that on their own? Or did you just assume it was all because 3G has so much pull over them? You can't? You know when a lineage breaks, the #1 and #2 fighting typically restarts the new lineage. Thought that was common knowledge. No sh*t it isn't. But you are completely overlooking canelo's actions. No one is trying to establish a new lineage "Because they feel like it".... that's just childish to even suggest. Now I don't even know for certain this fight establishes a new lineage, but it seems plenty do, for the simple reason that you don't seem to understand. Canelo completely left the division and won a title in A NEW DIVISION. For f*ck's sake.... and you act like this is normal or acceptable because some high profile fighters were able to get away with it? Every effort? By sending offers that virtually everyone in the boxing world dismissed as disingenuous? We'll see how serious they are after, I guess the Chavez Jr fight. Further above you say you can't understand why, but then say right here some have points to consider? Those statements sort of contradict each other. If it's a fact, it's because boxing politics allows superstars to get away with things they wouldn't let any other boxer.
LOL I wasn't personally offended by Triple G's comment towards the belt, I thought it was funny in a way, but you've got to admit it's a little disrespectful for a guy to say "it's MY belt, give me MY belt" like he's entitled to someone else's belt. Also this is directly related to the topic at hand, and why the Lineal Title can't just be handed to someone like the WBC was to Golovkin. If Golovkin wants to be Lineal Champion, he's not going to have it handed to it like he was the WBC. He's going to have to step in the ring with Alvarez and attempt to beat Canelo. That's why the Lineal Title is important, because cry babies can't just scream "give me my title" and have a title handed to them. They have earn it by fighting the guy who is the Champ.
Shadow is such a ****ing ****** claiming the WBC is influenced by Golovkin. The same WBC based in Mexico where it's elder Suleyman is Chavez Jr's God father. YEP, it's official; Kazakh's run the WBC. LOOOL Uzbezk's run the IBF. Tajik's the WBA and Turkmen the WBO.
I'm sorry you feel that way. I am just trying to set the record straight about the Lineal Title. Not sure to what extent Golovkin influenced the WBC. It's makes sense from Golovkin's side to try to get the WBC to force Canelo to agree to terms that benefitted Golovkin with him being the mandatory. I just didn't like the whole aura of collusion from the moment Canelo won the title, even before he won the title, he had a mandatory and based on that he was prevented from negotiating the fight with Golovkin freely. Had Canelo not been pressured to fight Golovkin right after he beat Khan, I am of the belief that the fight may have happened last September. Instead, the level of disrespect made Canelo and GBP choose to vacate and fight Liam Smith instead.
Canelo is disrespecting both himself and the fans by fighting Liam Smith instead of his mandatory, Golovkin.
He is sort of at Middleweight now. He's certainly not fighting at 154 any longer. He's fighting his next fight above MW, not below. It's a sign that he's serious about campaigning at MW. If he were defending his 154 lb title in May at 154, then you'd have more of an argument that he's not fighting at MW.
You're entitled to your opinion. I didn't think it was normal for Golovkin to have been made Canelo's mandatory before he even won the title from Cotto. As far as Liam Smith, that already happened. Following the Smith bout, he made his intentions clear about fighting at Middleweight in 2017. Now we're here and he's fighting Chavez at Middleweight / above MW, to prepare him for a fight with Golovkin / Jacobs or Saunders at MW in the fall.
You say it shows he's serious about campaigning at MW, yet he's had 5 fights there, PRIOR to moving to 154 to regain a recent title. How can you say that with a straight face? (Assuming it was straight when types )
