Will there ever be another Muhammad Ali? Probably not, but wouldn't that be sweet.

Will there ever be another Arturo Gatti? Of course. There are probably 30 Gattis out there right now. All it takes is for HBO to get behind one of them and cram him down our throats and you've got a superstar. Open up Joe Public, get ready for some crap!

The HBO hype and the overrating of the Gatti-Ward trilogy annoyed me too, but come on, Gatti was involved in some terrific fights. He was the most entertaining boxer during the 1996-98 period.

No doubt. I love Gatti's character, who he was, what he stood for. But like you said, "hype" & "overrating" pretty much sums it up. The Gatti-Ward trilogy was as exciting as it gets. At the same time, it was of relatively little consequence. The reality is that there are fights like that going on every weekend in some ballroom in Bum****, South Dakota. Get Lampley & Merchant and a camera crew down there and the next thing you know a star is born.

Wow, tough crowd. Gatti put on entertaining fights. Was he the most skilled? No.. but he wasn't a journeymen. He was limited, but had heart and guts and a solid beard and a good punch. He took advantage of what he was given, and always gave his all, even in defeat.

I swear some of the guys who post on this site just like talking smack about boxers and don't even enjoy watching the fights. All you hear is "this guy sucks" or "so and so has no chin" or "so and so is #1 P4P" or "so and so got robbed"..... shut up already..

If you can't enjoy a Gatti fight, especially his fights with Robinson or Ward, then stop watching boxing. Boxing in it's rawest form isn't SRR or PBF, or even Winky or Sweet Pea.. it's about going out there and beating the hell out of the other guy until only one guys left standing.

I enjoy a good tactical fight, but give me a good slugfest between two solid guys and I'm set.

Corrales came close to Gatti (and was moving ever more closer to that role before his death) because of his good punch, his big heart, and his ability to have his chin act as a magnet for punches.

Castillo vs Corrales wasn't a tactical war, and either was Ward vs Gatti.. they were what they were, two good solid guys beating the **** out of each other.

You don't like that kinda fight, don't know what to tell you..

..but it is funny someone calling out Gatti for being sloppy when they are a Calzaghe fan...

But Corrales and Castillo showed a lot more skills than Gatti and Ward.

    They're also considerably better fighters.

Exactly! Corrales vs. Castillo showed brilliant inside fighting skill while being an extremely violent slugfest with all of the hollywood esque dramatics.

I didn't enjoy Gatti vs. Ward or Robinson, I don't enjoy that type of slop and it's highly overrated. This doesn't mean I should stop watching boxing when I adore the sport, I just feel that Gatti vs. Ward is not what represents boxing and it's part of the reason why casual fans can't appreciate all different kinds of matches.

Cotto's a P4P level fighter with immense skill, not a clubfighter on a pedastool with immense heart. Big difference.

I still liked those fights, especially Robinson-Gatti I, but as a whole the Gatti-Ward trilogy is overrated. It was a one-sided trilogy with only one fight that was really competitive or remotely close. The rubber match was a pretty good fight, not great, although the atmosphere might've made it seem better.

I don't really mind a sloppy fight that much, and I've seen much worse sloppy slugfests. Foreman-Lyle (of course, heavyweights are more likely to be sloppy) made Gatti-Ward look like Toney-McCallum I or Barrera-Marquez. Lewis-Klitschko was entertaining and violent, but it looked like two lumbering drunks.

I can watch a sloppy match fine, but it's not my favourite, however, I can't stand when sloppy matches are held in the same regard as sustained action fights that also showcase tremendous skill level from the very best in our sport... that pisses me off.

Gatti fights were all brutality with little substance, a tremendous show of will, which was excellent to watch the first few times, but after a couple of time, it just gets SICKENING to see a man destroyed again and again.

If they induct him into the Hall of Fame with names from this era like Kostya Tszyu and Shane Mosely/Oscar De La Hoya/Winky Wright/Bernard Hopkins....

Then I'll ****ing throw up and I won't think anything else of the IBHOF, what a disgrace that would be to put him in with the phenominal icons of our sport.
