That is, will there ever be a 5'10, 215 lb fighter with the speed, power and beastliness of Mike Tyson?
There will be other great heavyweights in my lifetime, I'm sure. But another Mike Tyson? Nah...he was one of a kind. His blend of speed, power, explosiveness, skill, ferocity, and intimidation (in a 5-11 package) was once in a lifetime type of stuff.
No. Hell no in fact! Tyson was an extremely rare talent that will NEVER be seen in the division again.
How many "Tyson's" has HW boxing seen? I would say, Dempsey, Louis, Frazier? & Tyson himself. Rare stuff, But it happens.
Tyson was like the next step in the evolution of the prototypical slugger from Dempsey, Marciano and Frazier. Who knows, there could be a next step up the scale in our lifetime.....
Of course not. But there will be another 'Fighter A' who has a story, drawing power and something intagible that we will ask in 20 years what would have happend between 'Fighter A' and Tyson, or Lewis, or Holyfield? Will there ever be another 'Fighter A'?? I think as soon as we have this sort of fighter there will be renewed interest in the sport and the division.
