You're the clueless one i'm afraid. I don't think you've seen much of Tyson or simply know doesn't what "on the inside"means.
I mentioned Frazier in relation to the thread starter mentioning him.
I repeat Tyson was not a great inside fighter,he was most devastating from mid range. Fact.

Thats not what you said dummy.

You said he was 'very poor' on the inside. That statement is so far removed from reality , it borderline retar ded.

Ive seen every Tyson fight and saw him savage multiple guys on the inside in the 80's while commentators also observed how dangerous he was up close.

Frank Bruno was mangled on the inside just to name one.

He wasn't that good on the inside, loads of guys easily tied him up and stopped him working.
Maybe the term "poor" was a tad harsh, but he was no better than average in there,no great shakes at all.
I think you're assuming I'm on some kind of downer against Tyson when in fact he's one of my all time favourite fighters.

Povetkin COULDN'T do anything against Wlad because the ref let Waldo get away with murder the entire time. Mike would have struggled too if the ref just let a 250 pound man hold his head and neck down every time he got within range and push him to the canvas multiple times.

Tyson was unique there will not be another Tyson just like there hasn't been another Ali. Some tried to mimic Ali like Biggs and Donald but it takes more than just copying another fighters style.

Tyson was naturally very gifted with speed, power and explosiveness that is rare.

He had a trainer who was able to connect with him on a level that few trainers do and who gave him that D'amato style which he perfected to a level that no previous D'amato fighter ever did.

Tyson trained like a demon in his youth, he lived and breathed boxing, his special set of circumstances drove him to succeed and push himself like few ever do. Just look at his style, that head movement, the low centre of gravity which very few fighters could maintain, the sheer explosiveness and ferocity unlike anything we had seen. He didn't just wade in like so many, he came in and forced opponents to try and hit him, he made them miss and he punished them for it. Tyson was actually a very good counter puncher, there was science to the violence.

I've not seen anyone close to Tyson. There have been fast guys, powerful guys, even guys with both but none of them had the technique or desire he had early in his career. Tyson's persona along with the sheer intimidation factor is also something we haven't seen since. Suffice to say if there is another Tyson like fighter I doubt it will be in my lifetime if ever.

:thumbsup thats probably the best concise answer. I dont think modern trainers could develop that sort of style into a fighter. The shorter heavyweights fight the same way against taller fighters :? 'If i connect with that overhand right' Its over attitude. And they end up doing nothing!

Great fighters come and great fighters go, that's the way it is. One day we might see a heavyweight boxer that might just be special, just like every other sport. There could be a little boy right now in bed watching boxing who is destined to be the greatest heavyweight to ever live. You just never know. Just because heavyweight boxing sucks right now, doesn't mean it's always going to suck.

It's about the peek a boo style that Cus created and like you said there isn't a modern day trainer that could develop someone like Cus did with Mike ..:good
