I agree with you, Toney looks like he always did the last years in these recent pics, this is a do or die fight for him and he should know it. If he doesn't get his ass down to 225lbs at least I will be disappointed. Toney will always be my favourite fighter but if he can't beat Tony Thompson anymore he should retire. Thompson is dangerous and underrated, still Toney should be able to beat a fighter like that easily, if he can't win this one he will only have to blame himself for it. And eventually his fans will lose their patience with him for not taking this as serious as he should.
Thompson showed a very good Chin against Wlad. James Toney is not going to KO anyone at Heavyweight. Yes, Holyfields corner stopped the fight not the referee Holyfield beat the count. Toney has ZERO power at Heavyweight.
Toney wobbled Holyfield, Booker (although injured), Peter (during round 6 in their 1st meeting) and Rahman in their rematch... I do agree though that he clearly doesn't possess 1 punch ko power as a hw although he can ko/tko hw on accumulation alone.
I think it will be UD for Toney but only if he is in good shape. Thompson is dangerous opponent and it can be hard night for Toney if he doesn’t take this seriously.
it will be interesting to see what kind of shape Toney comes in. Over/under 230? Nevertheless - I see him plodding to a SD victory in an ugly, boring fight.
The question should be the other way around. He can't break an egg at HW but he can outbox him.He might be too old to do that anyway.I smell an upset here....or is it even that.
There's a chance it will turn out this way. I hope it won't. If it does, Toney should retire with a last win under his belly.
