No. Golovkin 2015 : Murray, Monroe Jr, Lemieux, all stopped. Kovalev 2016 : Pascal stopped, Chilemba and Ward (unoficially)
Kovalev won in 2014 (though I thought Inoue actually had the better year. Lomachenko won last year. Sometimes, Ring gets it (more or less) right. Usyk is the clear, clear choice for the vast majority of people, so it would be a travesty if he were to be passed over in favor of someone like Alvarez.
Golovkin probably would have won had Fury not upset Klitschko. That turned out to be the biggest win of the year, and Ring has a way of rewarding fighters who accomplish that. Officially, Kovalev lost that fight to Ward- and the fact that he allowed Ward to be able to overtake him on the cards put hi m into position where he could be overtaken by Frampton for FOTY.
Unofficially? Gtfo. Ring gave 2015 to Fury, which is debatable. Golovkin had a solid year but it is no lock for him.
I wouldn't be surprised if the GBP/Ring magazine board gets overruled again and they get ordered to give it to Canelo instead. But everyone knows it has to be Usyk.
