He refused the rematch because he got killed in the first fight.

I thought a fighter that won a true TKO victory would allow a rematch that would have payed more then any fight in his career?

    1. He never truly won
    2. He knew he would lose just like the first fight had it continued
    3. He was scared

Heart of a ****ing lion. Danny Williams was/is a beast when he wants to be. If Vitali would've stuck around, he woulda done the same thing to Byrd.:good

The thumb and the doctor have prevented him. Vitali is now 40 and still the dominant champ.

Steward: "He [Lennox] told me that Vitali hurt him in that fight pretty bad and that he didn't want to have to face him again. I told him that if he wanted to continue fighting at all, that he would have to give Vitali a rematch. He chose to retire."

    :deal

Even his little brother whos said to be weakling did not quit with the same injury in his fight against Chagaev. Also he had no problem to throw punches until he quit because he just needed an excuse for his bitchout
Byrd was no *****. Quitali sent his little brother the get the belt back because he was afraid of Byrd who made him quit like a chicken

Vitali lost 2 fights against world class fighters. Period. End of story.

It didnt look like a thumb to me or indeed any impartial observer.

A champ that wins does not OWE a challenger a rematch. A challenger that wins owes a champ a rematch to prove it was no fluke.

The Stewart quote proves NOTHING other than he lost desire to continue boxing, he always had motivation issues.

Lewis won get over it!! Fans still crying like Vitali nearly did in the ring afterwards. Shame really they cant recognise his for more than a loss.

Vitali is lucky the Lewis fight was stopped or that would have been his first ko loss.

But till he retires no, the talent just isn't there.
