Will Ward ever move up to 175?

Not according to his trainer Virgil Hunter who said he thinks he'll always be a SMW

Even Ward said he'll eventually move up. There are some interesting fights for him still at 168lbs.

Who knows really, we'll have to wait and see, I certainly don't expect him to though.

Well he's only 3 pounds away being that he's already in the 172 pound division.

What are they? Ward is with Jay-Z, who doesn't deal with Haymon.

    DeGale - Haymon
    Ant. Dirrell - Haymon
    And. Dirrell - Haymon
    Chavez Jr - Haymon
    Fonfara (172) - Haymon
    Bute - Haymon
    Froch - retired
    Kessler - retired
Abraham - fighting Sturm, not coming back to the US
    Sturm - see above
Groves - fighting Jack, promoted by Sauerland who lived the Kessler-Ward fight
Jack - TMT, Haymon is probably in there somehow

That's it, you're left with Stieglitz (worthless at this point, plus he's with SES) and Zurdo Ramirez who's too young and unproven for a Ward fight.

Don't forget that he's already ducked Degale, Degale signed the contract to fight him (in the US of course) and Ward pulled out.

And he gave up his WBC strap in order so that he wouldn't have to face his ''brother'' Anthony Dirrell.

'Let's start with Ward's next fight. The June 2 date in Oakland should work, but it won't be against Bute, who faces Carl Froch on May 26. Nor will it be against Anthony Dirrell, it would seem. Dirrell, the brother of the more famous Andre Dirrell, is Ward's WBC mandatory. But Ward says he's not interested in that fight and would just vacate his belt, even though he called it "a good matchup." He claims that the TV networks won't be interested, which seems bizarre given that Showtime televised Dirrell's eliminator win over Renan St-Juste in
    December.'

"That's a good matchup," Ward told SI's Chris Mannix when asked about facing Dirrell. "But to be perfectly honest with you I don't have a lot of interest. I consider Anthony a good fighter, a brother. But the networks won't be interested."

And we all know the history regarding him and Anthony's bro Dre Dirrell, who Ward is even closer friends with than he is with Anthony, not wanting to fight each other and never harboring any intentions of doing so. People in the know, posters on here who trained in the Bay Area in Ward's gym, were posting that the fight was never going to happen long before it became apparent to the rest of us it wasn't and they were absolutely adamant about it too.

So who does that leave for him? And moreover who in god's name is actually worthy of a shot at His Holiness if lineal LHW champ Adonis and reigning IBF SMW champ were ''unworthy'' and ''would have to win some more big fights first'' or beat 1 or 2 A class fighters'' because ''they didn't have the track record to warrant a shot at him''? Ward's own words.

There seem's to be a "game" that Ward is playing, but I can't figure out what it is or what the goal is...

I'd like to see him in there with Degale, purely because Degale rises to the challenge and it might be the time to catch Ward.

Groves would have been good 18 months ago.

Bute would have been good 4-5 years ago.

Tons of great fights for him up at 175.

After the S6, Ward should have faced Bute, moved up when Chad was the man at 175, beat him at that weight, took on Kov and Adonis, possibly beat them, and his resume right now would be the best in the game as he would have genuinely cleared out two divisions.

    But he hasn't done either.

All good points. Haymon is very involved at SMW and LHW, so being with Roc puts even more roadblocks in front of him. Kovalev is the only marquee name not with Haymon between 168 & 175.

Regarding "unworthy" challengers... here's a gem.

    Ward wanted to fight

    Another MW? :patsch

How many is that now? Sergio, Golovkin, Truax, Rubio, shot former MW drunk Pavlik, Chavez Jr. who is in reality 2-2 above MW (1 loss via stoppage), or 0-1 when Ward was on bended knee begging to fight him, literally right after Chavez had lost his only fight above 160 - the robbery win against blown up MW journeyman Brian Vera - and was 0-2 in his last 2 fights (including the Vera robbery which nobody thought Chavez won) :rofl

    Why?
172 is really starting to take shape now. Competitive division.

Ward hasn't got the bottle, he wants to fight small super middleweights at 172 catchweights.
