    A simple yes/no

For newer fans: Lennox Lewis ducked Vitali Klitschko by refusing a rematch and retiring to avoid what many boxing fans knew would be a win for Vitali in the rematch.

Same scenario here: Kovalev is the favorite in the rematch, and Ward is considering retirement. Will history repeat itself?

without fighting him? he just fought him.

pulling a lennox lewis? i dont think ward can destory kovalev as easily as old worst ever lewis did in halftime versus prime vits. kovalev is another kind of beast to vits.

I don't know where you get Lennox retired to avoid fighting Kovalev? That was six years before Sergey turned pro...

I never hated on LL for retiring after he beat Vits on cuts and I wouldn't hate on Ward if he called it quits,,

all you stupid fan boys on here make me laugh while you so deeply question elite boxers bravery from your keyboards :roto2lol:

I think he'll try to avoid the rematch, there's a reason why he goes on and on about how he won the fight and wants everyone to act like it (his own words) when even Kovalev has moved on and doesn't talk about the first fight anymore and just wants a rematch. Ward doesn't want another fight, he's content with the W on paper and hopes that this will get him into the HoF, especially if Kovalev goes on to have a great career and people forget about the robbery.

Ward also knows that his dumb promoters won't pay him as much for the rematch because they don't want to lose money in the fight again.

This is ad hominem fallacy and it makes no sense at all. Elite boxers are held to a certain standard that was set by other elite boxers in the past and the fans judge them from that perspective.

yeah the judging goes way too far when the fans are calling out what cowards these guys are when the opposite is far more true.

just keep it in perspective is what I am saying, too many fans take what they say way too seriously imo.

Lennox was 38, he has was the end of his career and felt he had nothing left to prove, he could have just as well retired after beating Tyson (the fight he had been pursing for years), he could have given Vitali a rematch, the public wanted it, but chose not to, bear in mind, that despite having huge problems early on, Lewis was coming on stronger, and Vitali was horribly cut and badly gassing, the ring-side doctor did the right thing, possible preventing permanent damage to his face

Ward, on the other hand, is 31, in the prime of his career, and should prove the doubters wrong, by beating an equally prime top p4p fighter in Kovalev, after an extremely close fight that could have gone either way

I'm starting to believe that this is the case. Otherwise Ward would not be rattling on about retiring when the rematch and terms were agreed to upfront.

So let him retire. Everybody knows who won that fight and who the top dog is. Ward will stew in his own juices.

They're cowards compared to the elite boxers, for example Lewis and Ward are cowards compared to the Klitschko's and Kovalev. I don't see why people have such problem when this obvious fact is pointed out.

Certain fighters take much more risks and are willing to take on the best constantly.

Ward could have earned huge kudos and an official "brass balls certificate" had he turned to Kovalev and said "You know, I felt that the fight was really close and even though they gave me the win, I want it to be clear that I am the better man. You have to give me a rematch."

His situation would be no different financially and contractually to what it is now ... but everybody would be celebrating him as a fair dude and an old-school hardass.

If he had the money of Lewis of course he would run away.
