Cotto can weigh-in at 154 and fight for Mayweather's lineal title at 154 and Mayweather can fight for Cotto's lineal title at 160.

What do you think? Most undeniebly so! Floyd definitely fell in love with millions of dollars and his so called legacy so his last hurrah is to win a World Title in Division number six and that is Middleweight with blue and white colar and everything. The guy who provides him the chance he already beat with more or less difficulty so he ain't playing high risk poker game by challenging Miguel Cotto at 160, 6 pounds north of 154, not Peter Quillin, not Gennady Golovkin, not Sergio Martinez at his best, just Miguel Cotto, that's it.

If Mayweather goes up to 160 to fight Cotto it will make his catchweight with Canelo look even gayer than it already does.

On the other hand, if Mayweather is permitted to fight for Cotto's 160 belt without actually making 160 it will be a total disgrace. I know there are precedents for winning belts without making weight, but that doesn't make it right.

I hear what you're saying but belts have been cheapened in boxing because there are so many of them
having all those federations trying to be 'meaningful' has the reverse effect, and that's also what allows fighters to dictate the course of their career to the detriment of the sport

Cotto was 155 against Sergio and will probably weigh the same for a Floyd fight at 160. It'll just be a welterweight fighting a superwelterweight for the middleweight title. Doesn't make any sense and the title would be invalid.

    i'll answer it...
    why should that be important?

there's another thread comparing calzaghe beating Hopkins to being better than any opponent Floyd has ever faced, and I agree

    but you know what?
that argument wouldn't even be applicable if Floyd had fought pacman when it mattered

so Floyd can monopolize his fights, Floyd can top the forbes list, and Floyd can be P4P #1 - but none of that matters legacy-wise if Floyd's ego prevents the one fight that mattered most happening because "no-one dictates terms to Floyd"

my point was that ego was a major and destructive factor in that fight not being made, but I've always maintained that both parties are to blame for that fight not happening, and i'm happy to reinforce that again now :good
