Will we see Teofimo Lopez struggle or succeed against Shakur Stevenson?

Yep I think this could be man v boy. Shakur isn’t the guy he thinks he is just another Floyd wannabe. He has the skill but not the physicality, smarts of toughness as Floyd.

 

I think if Teo's right mentally he'll beat him. Too strong and powerful. Shakur is a natural counter puncher but he doesn't have the toughness and gumption to slip and bang in the pocket like a James Toney which means he's going to run in a futile effort to reset the exchanges in his favour at his preferred distance. This will allow Teo an opportunity to dictate much of of the tempo of the fight.

 

It’s a difficult one to call, when they have off days they really have off days but when they turn up they can bring it.
But the worst performance was shakur against Josh Padley.
I like both tbh but I should probably dislike teo but he’s funny man, the presser with the 4 princes was hilarious.

 

Yep good breakdown exactly my thinking. Shakur tries that slick US style and it works on the smaller weaker opponents he has been fighting but even then he can’t put a dent in them. Like you said he doesn’t slip and stay in the pocket he jumps in and out of range like a cat as he seems terrified of getting hit. He could only eventually stop a guy like Padley mainly due to exhaustion.

 

Hard to call, but I'm favoring Stevenson.

Lopez got beat by Kambosos and Kambosos doesn't have a lot of power either.

Lopez fights with his hands down too much and that always leave openings for fast fighters and fighters with good timing. He's also too inconsistent at the elite level. I can see Stevenson winning a 8-4 decision.

Kambosos doesn’t have big power but he is brave enough to stay inside the kill zone and sit down on a punch that’s how he hurt Lopez. I have never seen Shakur stay in the pocket and sit down on a punch.

 

This. I think current Stevenson beats Lopez even if the best Lopez we've seen shows up. Where are they fighting? Maybe NY judges could save Teofimo, but I doubt it.

 

It's not just Lopez that fights up or down to the level of his competition...his corner prepares and strategizes accordingly as well. The gameplans were rock solid for Lomachenko and Taylor.

Shakurs power is fading fast on the climb up in weight. 140, especially his first fight there, might be the bridge too far. I think Lopez pounces in round 1 and has Shakur gunshy from that point.

Is the hop back defense effective if the power isn't respected?

Shakur is going to be on his bike and I can't see how they will give him the decision with Lopez bombing away.
