Most everything in boxing is subjective, many still (wrongly) argue than Holmes' and Lewis's records are poor, but you can and should make quality judgments when appropriate. Few haters of Holmes and Lewis would argue their defenses were worse than Wilder's. Factually, the defenses he had were against people who were not rated in Ring's top 10, or generally in the top 10 of other ranking organizations, and they did not at the time of the bout have many wins over other fighters who were ranked in other organizations. He is at the lower end of HW belt holders in that fact, historically, and that is a legitimate point of criticism.

Of course Wilder, and every other boxer, deserves feedback and judgment from fans during the course of his career. It's what helps define what his legacy will be after his career ends.

I agree with this. People will complain about level of opposition but never take into account how often they fight.

I'm 95% sure a fighter who fought two stiff fights in a year with 3 bums in between would get more criticism here than a fighter who only fought two stiff fights.

I completely disagree. Not only is he not in the lower end of beltholders historically, Wilder isn't even in the lower end of the belt holders currently.

Wilder's only behind current world champ Tyson Fury - who has one big win over Wlad. And we'll see if Fury even manages one defense.

Are the reigns of Chagaev, Ortiz and Joshua better than Wilder's?

    NO.

Good post. But at the end of every dominant Champions reign, there is a round robin of competent A level fighters and pretenders playing hot potato for a few yrs before the next definitive Champion arises.

Sadly for Holmes, Foremans retirement left him without that mantle of A level vs A level.

In a yr or two, this will all be sorted out.

Wilder's defenses have been awful. No defending it. And fighting Arreola is pathetic. Wilder is just a belt holder right now anyway the champ is Fury and he's fighting the former champ Wlad in a rematch.

For 36 fights and being 30 years old Wilder's record is insanely soft for this stage of his career. No way around it and any non biased observer would say the same.

Chafaev and Ortiz? No, of course not. In fact always argued Wilder was better and imagine I always will. But I guess the problem is I compare Wilder more to a potential atg like Lewis or wlad than a temporary belt holster or paper belt holder like Chagaev or Ortiz. And in that respect,he currently lags greatly behind. I'm truly hopeful he starts making up ground, but right now, he's indisputably lagging

Wilder was crying to the WBC, on his knees, demanding that the WBC not make him fight his mandatory Povetkin because he was afraid he would get knocked out...........Povetkin has been cleared with a clean test and was not guilty.......................something smells...........................................

Oh no, Wilder is fighting his sixth fighter currently rated by the WBC. So awful.
