Without AJ in the mix it's a paper belt.

I don't think it is far from clear.

He got smashed to bits against Ruiz and fought safety first in the rematch to take a points victory.

I think Wilder and Fury are undoubtedly 1 and 2.

That sounds like Wlad's career, from Sanders onwards.

And he was still the top dog for close to another decade.

Wilder lost every round against an ancient Ortiz, and Fury went absolute life and death with an unknown. That's their most recent work.

I rank AJ above both in terms of greatness.

But as I said, the official bodies rank them one and two, so whichever one wins in February (if they fight) will be the new lineal.

Exactly and look how long it then took Wlad to be considered a clear number 1 after that point.

Wilder and Fury both did what they needed to avoid defeat.

    Small margins.

It would be for the Ring belt, but not for the "lineal" championship. Not that there's much value in that lineal thing nowadays.

Different scenario, unless AJ loses again.

Wlad lost to Sanders and then lost again to Brewster. This delayed his 'redemption.'

If AJ loses again, your case will be stronger.

But as of now, while the winner of Fury - Wilder will be lineal, he will still need to defeat AJ to be considered the best, the man at HW.

Lines get broken thus lineal doesn't really exist.

Realistically Vitali had a better claim at lineal than Wlad, controversial loss to Lewis in Lennox's final fight. If your going by the man who beat the man line!

I can't stand Fury, I think he is an absolute fraud of but that doesn't change the fact that HE IS INDEED the lineal champion....he won that distinction by defeating Wlad Klitschko in a horrible sham of a fight, and he has yet to lose ....
The lineal championship can ONLY be won or lost IN THE RING

Nothing controversial about it. Lewis won that by stoppage.

Some say Fury is lineal, some say not. There are organisations that award the lineal status, and they seem to be saying that Fury is not lineal. It's a mess either way.

He beat Sam Peter, who beat Oleg Maskeav, who beat Hasim Rahman, who beat Monte Barret for Vitali's WBC that he vacated and retired rather than face Rahman

I guess you can say that Vitali never lost it in the ring, which is true, but he retired and refused to fight Rahman so his title was up for grabs
