Mayweather fighting Cotto @ 154 in May and beats him and stays in that weight class. Lets say Later in the year or early next year Mayweather jr fights Martinez and beats Martinez via UD @ catch weight of 150, would you still give him credit?

I always got the impression Floyd got plenty of credit for being arguably the best boxer on the planet for a good few years now. Its his lack of balls in pitching his talent against the other best boxers in the division since hes been at 147+ thats the problem.

Ive always said hes got the skills to beat Manny Pacquiao but he doesnt seem to have the balls to get in a ring with him and prove it.

    Of course he would

Well, i would anyway. Depending how Sergio looked. If he looked like a ghost, then no.

But could Sergio make 150 ?

Yes Fliyd would get credit for the win but lose some for being able to fight Cotto at 154 lbs and then asking for a 150 lbs catch weight for Martinez.

This. People will revert to 'he's one of the two best fighters in the world, he was supposed to win.'

    Or

    'Sergio was weight drained'

    Or

'Martinez was 37, Mayweather beat an old man.'

    One excuse after another. :patsch

    not really no.

Defending the 154 crown against Martinez would be passable but I wouldn't exactly be thrilled.

If Floyd was to go to Mw and beat Martinez, I'd be much more impressed.

My reasoning is that guys coming down in weight to challenge for a title very rarely end up successful because of the weight cutting that's involved.

No. No one should get credit for having to weight drain and opponent to beat them. Mayweather would fight him at 154 if they fought anyway.

If Mayweather Jr is fighting Cotto at 154, why whould he fight Sergio at 150 ?? I thought Mayweather Jr said he didnt want catch weights, thats why he's facing Cotto at 154.

I'd like to see Floyd fight Martinez at 154 personally.

He can't fight Cotto at 154 and then Martinez at 150.

Why would he fight Martinez at 150 if hes fighting Cotto at 154? Stop making excuses for ur God. Fight isnt happening in any weight anyway.
