Brook gained huge praise for jumping two weight divisions to face P4P GGG, but IMO he loses all of his brownie points and then some if he doesn't fight Spence. Khan won't be ready until the 2nd half of the year so Brook has no excuses not to face his mandatory. Pacman will not fight him that's for sure, there's no point. There are huge double standards on this forum, but I would like to hear some logical reason as to why we shouldn't throw Spence under the bus?????
It depends on the context of why he dropped it. If it's because he can't make WW anymore and he's making a full time shift to JMW, than I'd have no issues with it. But if he stays at 147, I don't see a reason to avoid the fight. A fight with Spence and a potential fight with the winner of Garcia-Thurman is the route he should go if he stays at WW.
Still depends on what he does next. If he makes a permanent move to 154 after a money grab fight with Khan, then no. But If he goes after someone else at 147 despite vacating his title, then yes. It'd be a duck.
Depends on the context doesn't it. If he cant make welterweight anymore, than he simply cant make it. If he avoids spence but stays at 147, thats obviously not a good look.
hope he fights Spence....its a good fight for both and its about time for Spence to step up competition level.
I might be well off the mark but it's what I expect. I do consider myself a Brook hater so I admit to bias, and Brook fighting Spence next would impress me quite a bit. Spence is a PPV fight in the UK for Brook, so it ain't like it makes no money. Brook would get the lions share as well. Losing to Spence damages his reputation more than a loss to GGG but ducking him is even worse.
I gave Brook praise for fighting Golovkin but I expect champions to fight the top contenders. If he still considers himself a welterweight champion, he needs to prove it by beating Spence. The welterweight division has too much talent right now for the best guys to avoid each other.
No, because it's now very obvious that Brook was a massive boiler and going back down to 147 could leave him seriously drained. Besides, he had the sack to fight Golovkin at 160 (who's the biggest puncher from 154-168), so you can't say he's afraid of Spence.
