He has always been an entertainer and a big draw for boxing. That type of character is needed in the sport, regardless if they are great or not. He wasn't but that wasn't his main talent IMO. His time is up and has been for quiet some time, so with that said, good riddance.

I for one thank Oscar for what he's done for boxing these last couple of years. Boxing seemed to be dead up until about the time he took on Mayweather and Pacquiao later on. He made superstars out of those two. MMA was gaining popularity fast, but now the sweet science has come back stronger than ever, once again overshadowing MMA.

The "anals" of history... :barf *shudder*

Seeing him fight at that level or below would be sad. He's way too high-profile as an ex-champ for it to not help the general public find boxing irrelevant.

So far so good... but add in his whining, his gift decisions, and his many defeats and his legacy is tarnished a bit. Running from his opponent in a title fight he thought he had in the bag was pathetic also. You have to take the bad with the good.

In the last 10 years he is 8 - 6 on the books (really 7 - 7 when the Sturm gift is made right). That isn't so wonderful, and it is a really long streak of mediocrity.

no tears here,,purely for his own good.oscar has given us a great legacy (except the last 3 fights).lets leave it at that.
    actually ,lets not.
oscar has robbed a few people in his super-business antics of late.also had too much influence over some fights (felix sturm was conclusively robbed!).as much as i admire the man for his early fight career,i feel that he has let some greed creep in.many would say that wanting to get a 'bit more' out of the business before you retire is a sensible thing to do,and i would be inclined to agree.
unless the trail of wrecked careers behind is a burden to the squeeky clean, super rich image he so lovingly created for himself, then i seriosly hope that insomnia don't kick in.
thanks for all the good times, but bow out gracefully please oscar.

I won't. Good riddance to the loser of all big fights.
