Eric Priest (10-0) vs Simon Madsen (13-1)

Most of the fight spent in the trenches. Good action in close, though a lot of it was of the "take turns" variety.

Priest is a little larger, with punches that were a little more accurate and had a little more snap in each round. Madsen definitely landed his share and earned an draw on one card, but Priest won wide on the other two (80-72, 79-73) to earn what I thought was an entirely deserved decision.

Darius Fulghum (6-0) vs Ricardo Adrian Luna (25-10-2)

Hey, it's Luna...Golden Boy's favorite MW/SMW/LH trial horse, here to provide some rounds and perhaps some resistance Fulghum a young, athletic LH prospect with only a half dozen fights and 15 total rounds under his belt.

Not that much resistance provided though. Fulghum immediately pushed Luna back to the ropes with some stiff jabs and then lit him up in the opening round with combos to the body and head. Luna gamely tried to fire back and did bounce a looping right or two off Fulghum's face, but he didn't have the power to keep his younger, larger foe at bay. To make matters worse for Luna, he was cut pretty badly on the top of the head by a head clash and his face was the proverbial crimson mask after that.

Luna made it through round one but was complaining of impaired vision in between rounds. To his credit, he could have called it a day but he came out for round two, and promptly got pasted to the body and head. Once again, he landed a nice chopping right, but Fulghum responded by folding him to the body with a hook and then forced him to kneel down a few seconds later with a hard right.

At that point, the official wisely called it.

Not many rounds provided either for young Darius, even it it was a step up in class from the guys he's faced as a pro thus far.

 

Estrada and Valle would be a lovely matchup in more ways that one.

Yokasta Valle (28-2) (c) vs Maria Sentizo (11-3) WBO and IBF Minimumweight titles

Sentizo tries to start quickly and overwhelm her foe with volume and by launching a steady steam of right hands at her foe. Some of those right hands land early but Yoka quickly figures her out and realizes that Maria is completely neglecting her defence to throw punches at the champ. This allows her to repeatly time her with flush counter right hands and left hooks on the way in, and then land some more flush counters after slipping the shots Sentizo throws. Yokasta just doesn't have a lot of power, and her penchant for head hunting didn't help matters either, so she wasn't able to do much more than rattle Sentizo on occasion, but it was still more than enough to earn a wide UD victory.

99-91 on my card, could call it shut out or maybe score it 98-92 if you wanted to be generous and award Sentizo the fifth along with the first.

WBA INTER-CONTINENTAL TITLE IS ON THE LINE!!!!

Palomares showed a lot of heart but he needs to show some defense.
