I don't think he'd succeed as much against men "his own size" but who cares? There have been tons of fighters who are tall but can get down to the weight limit: Funeka, Corrales, Williams, Guillermo Jones, Pavlik, young De La Hoya just to name a few.
As a Paul fan I have mixed feelings. I like Paul and if he makes 147 he should be able to fight anyone at that weight class. i think he might be surprised when he finds that he can't make the weight anymore after taking a haitus from the weightclass. However from my personal vantage, I'm not too interested to see a tall man whoop on a short man. I rather see similar height and weight because that makes for an apples to apples comparison. I want to see who is more skilled. Plus some guys are better at cutting weight. Paul usually comes back 158-162 night of the fight. I know Pac and May definitely do not. Honestly I think Paul could beat both, but wouldn't say he is particularly more skilled than either. I do think Paul deserves a payday for all the challenges he has taken, but I'm tired of this backdoor route that fighters take and complain about. Pac and May got titles, Paul has just got to become their mandatories.
WHY the HELL was it Martinez fighting Pavlik? Williams WON yet he couldnt fight? Yes, Pavlik lost to Martinez but I think he would have won against Williams.
some of you dont know what you're talking about. if the man can make 147, then hes a welterwieght. did you have the same complaints when thomas hearns was campaigning at 147?
You knuckle head, after Williams beat Margarito, Williams called out both Mayweather and Cotto to unify. We all know Mayweather wouldn't fight Williams. But Arum said that since he believe Margarito beat Williams that Williams will not fight Cotto. And you know whats funny about this? After the wbo strip Williams, all of the sudden Cotto vs Jennings was for the vacate wbo title? Bs.
Sorry dude but learn your facts, Mayweather don't have a title cause when Mayweather beat Mosley, he didn't win the wba title cause Mayweather wouldn't pay the fee in which i don't blame him and he said cause "title for me are like dust. I don't need title belts."
I personally think its really clever for Willimas to be able to cut his weight down so much and fight guys who are a head shorter than him.
The man has still to convince me of how good some people claim he is, I just don't see it. Those 3 rounds against Cintron did nothing to change my mind.
But it supposed to be weight at the fight time not a few days before. The current system is supporting the guys as Willimas to be able to cut his weight to fit the scale and then have both the weight and the size advantage over the guys who are natural at their weight limit. For example Floyd is natural 146/147 lb right now, according to you it should be fair then that Floyd will balloon up with 10lb to match Willimas and be on his size during the fight?
i agree, i prefer same day weigh in, but williams in not the only person to put on weight post weigh in didn't pavlik just get destroyed after making weight then putting on 18ish pounds?
