I'm not having a go, I'm intrigued. I thought there was about 6 inches in it?

It's another interesting point that (as far as I know) this will be the first time Williams has fought anyone taller than himself. So it's fair to speculate that this may force him to fight a different fight. But height advantage without reach advantage is only really beneficial at mid-short range or inside where Kelly could lean on PW and the height diff is not really that great for Kelly to use it as an advantage. You're right, PW no longer has this advantage, but he still has the reach.

I'm genuinely interested to hear your point about the reach stats being misleading though?

 

I couldn't help but notice a few posters who claimed I'm always disrespectful toward Williams and his fans. That's wrong. I engage in trash talk when another poster is up for it, because it's fun. In addition I call people on their bull****. This story abour PW being some kind of master boxer is irritating as hell, and makes me wonder what the hell those people watched. They weren't watching the real Paul Williams.

I've been following Paul's career since I saw one of his early fights on ESPN. It's a fact that PW was forced to move up in weight because no sane welterweight will get in the ring with him. Don't bother mentioning Clottey. The man brings nothing to the ring; not money and not notariety. Paul could probably rule the world at 154, but the division sucks. Guys like Santos, Martinez, and Spinks have nothing to offer. They do not command big money, nor or they particularly big wins. That leaves Paul with one option: A big money fight against the true middleweight champion of the world. My hat comes off to PW for taking such a dangerous fight.

When it comes right down to it, I've watched a ton of video of PW and KP recently, and Paul presents a unique package. However, Pavlik has dealt with every single attribute that PW brings to the ring. He's an easy target for Pavlik's right hand and his left hook. Now some poster above said he doesn't remember the last time he saw Pavlik throw a decent left hook. Once again I'm left wondering what he's been watching. I can only assume he missed the fights with Zertuche, Miranda, Taylor, and Rubio. Then there's this business with PW's jab and hand speed. I sat right here and watched Margarito, of all people, slip Paul's jab repeatedly. When Tony slips your jab, there's a problem with hand speed and accuracy.

Williams does not have particularly good hand speed, his accuracy is terrible, his defense is relatively flawed, and he does not have great power. Against Pavlik that combination spells disaster.

1. You keep talkin bout Margarito slipping PW's jab yet you know and everyone who watched that fight knows PW was throwing a lazy jab(not sitting down on it) PW in an interview after that fight mention that he needed to sit down on his punches(jab)
2. Miranda is a Brawler with no Defense, Taylor has skillz but no stamina or defense! Do you really want me to talk about the forth Super Mario brother Rubio
3.If you wanna see speed check PW in the 12th round against Winky, PW threw a 13 punch flurry against Winky! Look like he was playing street fighter!!
4. PW's game plan isn't accuracy its volume/overwhemls you when he has to, keeps his opponents of balanced!!
5. Enough with Pavliks medical doc's too! Its getting tired

 

Boo, I called you out for being disrespectful to PW and I probably chose my words wrong. I just think that you and some other posters like Hermit seem to get far too defensive when someone tries to bring up faults in Pavliks game. Anyway no hard feelings as I'll also be rooting for Kelly come fight night.

You want me to give PW credit for beating Winky, and then you turn around and act like pounding the **** out of Miranda meant nothing. That is extremely hypocritical.

Miranda had just scored a 7rd TKO over the same version of Eastman that went the distance with AA. He then fought AA and lost in one of the most controversial fights in recent history. After that he took out Willie Gibbs in one round, and out boxed Allan Green. Next up, he got his ass handed to him by Pavlik.

Winky, on the other hand, came off a 21 month lay off, and had not won a fight since December of 2006. His last win before that was December of 2005.

Paul beat an old, worn out, semi-retired light middleweight. Pavlik beat a prime fighter who was slated to be the next middleweight King Pin, and HBO's next super star. Do the math.

All you PW fans keep talking about how Paul overwhelms fighters with volume. You don't seem to understand that I have NEVER disagreed. Paul stands at mid-range, and unleashes punches in bunches from all kinds of angles, and THAT is the very thing that is going to get him knocked out.

Jack Loew told KP something appropriate after the 3rd round of the first Taylor fight: "It's a basic ****ing fight with this kid! Jab, right hand, simple!" That applies here.

 

Sometimes there are misunderstandings, and I get accused of believing things that aren't true. Case in point: I layed out a fight plan in 2007, and said "This is how you beat Kelly Pavlik." The plan I layed out was almost identical with what Hopkins did! In addition, check out a Bute/Pavlik or Kessler/Pavlik thread sometime. The problem here is that Paul Williams isn't Lucian Bute or Mikkel Kessler, and he sure as hell aint no BHop.

 

Did you even read his analysis? Tell me where I'm wrong. He makes it sound like Pavlik is another 5'9" guy.

 

First of all if your saying that Jack Lowes instructions applies to the PW gameplan then Kelly Pavlik won't beat PDub!!!

Jermaine Taylor has NO defense whatsoever and has horrible head movement!!

The reason why you guys can't find one fight in PW career where he was hurt or buzzed is because he has constant head movement and he rolls with the majority of the punches at his head. He's a moving target for 12 rounds.

You guys keep talking about KP throwing punches and yet you forget KP has bad defense and will also have to defend punches coming back at him!!! Trust me its gonna be easier for PDubz to hit Pavlik than Pavlik hitting PW!!

 

When Quintana beat PDub I made no excuses! I took it like a man even my boyz who I watched the fight with got on me for placing my faith in PDubz!! But I told them if PW gets a rematch he will KO quintana within 3 rounds and sure enough a nice friendly monetary wager was made and I guess you know the outcome!!!

But more importantly Pdubz made no excuses!! You have to respect that, unlike Kelly Pavlik fans who have posted on ESB 3-4 times a week KP's medical docs!!!!

I'm used to debating guy's on the post not these threads but you can ask them if they've heard of HU

 

Good post, bro. I know I didn't like the B-Hop fight from the time it was announced, but hoped for the best. Styles, experience...you know.

 

While there are a lot of folks that like Pavlik or are a fan of his, Booradley is 1 of about 5 of us that are hardcore and post a lot on the subject.

You could possibly throw Hermit in with Boo as relentless, but how you gonna say a VERY HIGH PROPORTION of Pav fans are just disrepectful?

+ As (Williams fan) Mr. HU has stated in this thread, it's entertainment, and usually guys just try to get each other riled up for a good conversation. What fun would it be if all of ESB agreed 100% on EVERYTHING?
