This weekend we will have a solid card on Showtime and Showtime Extreme featuring fan favorites Paul Williams, Tavoris Cloud and Chris Arreola in tough fights. FIGHT INFO: Date: Saturday, February 18th 2012. Location: American Bank Center in Texas. Weight Class('s ): Williams-Ishida - Light Middleweight ( 154lbs ), Cloud-Campillo - Light Heavyweight ( 175lbs ), Arreola-Molina - Heavyweight ( No Limit ) Television: Showtime ( USA ), Premier Sports ( UK ), Main Event ( Australia ) Notable Undercard: Malik Scott Vs. Kendrick Releford 2 ( Reasonless rematch ), Alfonso Lopez Vs. J. Williams ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Paul Williams Vs. Nobuhiro Ishida: Paul Williams will attempt to rebound from a horrible comeback performance verses Erislandy Lara where he fought way too cautious and got clearly outboxed over 12 despite winning what most consider a robbery Split Decision that caused the judges to actually get banned. Some believe he will never return to his old exciting brawler ways, But then again it may have been ring rust, Williams hadn't fought for a year after loosing a brutal 2nd round KO to Argentine Sergio " Marvilla " Martinez. This fight with Ishida will show us exactly what at one time one of the most feared boxers on earth has left to give to the sport of boxing as a world class competitor. But Ishida won't be an easy fighter to get by. He is a tall, lengthy fighter so Williams doesn't have his height advantage. And Ishida recently knocked out an unprepared, Not well trained James Kirkland in a Douglas-Tyson type performance. Seems like a fluke. But I'll give him credit and he shouldn't be counted out. What I think happens: Seeing as they are both pretty tall I see the early rounds being boring, Both working behind their jabs, Ishida will begin to get broken down and stopped in the late rounds. Paul Williams TKO 10. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tavoris Cloud Vs. Gabriel Campillo: Tavoris Cloud will be facing his toughest challenge by far verses Spain's Gabriel Campillo. Cloud has fought some tough opponents in Yusaf Mack and Glen Johnson but has yet to fight a top contender near his prime with a good shot to beat him. Campillo has been a victim of some bad decisions verses Karo Murat and Beibut Shumenov in his opponents home countries. He takes a " road warrior " approach in his fights, He rarely gets a homecoming accept for in stay busy fights. He is prepared to take that risk again on Saturday verses American star Tavoris Cloud, A well rounded boxer-puncher who has the power to potential knocked out Campillo with a well placed flurry or outbox him to a UD. I am very excited for this bout assuming Campillo is game he will test Cloud and expose his hype or show Cloud's skill. What I expect: Campillo gives Cloud some trouble. But Cloud boxes well and wins a close decision. Cloud UD 12 ( 116-112, 116-112, 115-113 ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Arreola Vs. Eric Molina: Exciting heavyweight Mexican-American puncher Chris Arreola is fighting in an easy eliminator for Vitali Klitschko's WBC World title verses club fighter Eric Molina. Arreola already lost to Vitali by stoppage in 10 rounds in 2009. Despite that he has looked great since. Loosing a lot of the excess weight he had at that fight and defeating some decent opponents in Brian Minto, Joey Abell and a few joureyman. I think he will have a better shot this time around but still likely looses. Anyways back to his upcoming fight with Molina, I heard Molina is nothing but an unknown club fighter, This should be easy pickings for Arreola. Prediction: Arreola beats down Molina. 1 sided fight. Chris Arreola TKO 4. :good
Hey good stuff here. I especially like what you say with: "I am very excited for this bout assuming Campillo is game he will test Cloud and expose his hype or show Cloud's skill." This is a legit match-up of top 6 or 7 LHW's in what I believe is one of the best divisions at the moment. The Williams vs. Ishida fight is a good one. I give Ishida a lot of credit for the win over Kirkland. And I was impressed with Kirkland for fighting him when they signed for the fight. I think you should give Ishida some more credit than you do. That said, I believe I also picked a Williams TKO in 10 on Kirks' thread. I will probably give Williams slightly more credit for this than most. I actually see this as being a really "fun" fight, being that they are both so damn tall. Williams is always game and Ishida provides an interesting subject opposite him.
Styles make fights, and Ishida is old. But Williams doesn't have any more motivation to be 'great' that I can see, so it could end up being a boring fight. Ishida has never been knocked out either. I love the Cloud-Campillo matchup, but I think Cloud is coming into his own as a fighter and I think he'll put on a good show.
good stuff samurai's slice, looks like a good card. im not sure what what happened in the ishida-kirkland fight, ishida was not a big puncher, only 7 ko's in 22 fights, i also read somewhere that the fighters ishida were sparring in the USA, were handling him easy. then he go's in and blowns kirkland away. was it ishida who was better than we thought or kirkland who was a lot worse?
We'll get to see how much Paul Williams has left. Inhis last fight it really didn't seem like he wanted it anymore, so much different than the Paul Williams that fought Antonio Margarito.
