I don't understand the "IF" on PW's getting past Cintron. Maybe I'm biased (I'm definitely biased), but I don't see Kermit holding it together in this one. Even against Angulo, he looked at the referee every time he got hit. The adjustments made in both fighters' strategies will make Williams v. Martinez II positively delicious as a frame-by-frame.
Before Sergio had the problems with stamina, he was losing rounds 5-8, based on PW finally figuring out how to beat him. As the fight wore on, Sergio did seem to get a little weary, but it had more to do with the non-stop punching machine in front of him than the lack of a training camp. Paul may have been training, but he was training for Pavilk. Neither fighter had much of a chance to prepare strategically for the other. And because of it, stylistically I believe Paul will be doing the ad******g. And Sergio will continue to do the reacting. This time, Paul won't be so easy to counter, as he has now realized the consequences of getting hit cleanly by a guy like Sergio. Paul wins more convincingly in the rematch, as he takes his time and fights more like he did against Margarito.
No its gonna go like this,PW will study his mistakes and the rematch will go smililar to the Quintana rematch, who Martinez is actually very similar to,except he's more wreckless and not quite as fundamentally sound as Quintana he gives you more oportunaties to hit him,the Martinez bandwagon will come to a crashing hault, when Paul sits down on the them punches like he did in the Quintana rematch and puts his ass to sleep!
it would be another war... but i still see Paul winning this one like the first fight...but with a much clearer win to end disputes... hell, if the fight is really good..why not a III??
Paul Williams beats him again. Paul Williams underestimated Martinez, and his whole gameplan changed within a couple of weeks. Martinez will gas out again just like he did aginst Paul the first time, just like he did against Pavlik (until he hit Pavlik with that clutch left hand and got a 2nd wind), and he will do it again against Paul Williams in a rematch.
sergio takes this , everyone forgets he didnt have a full training camp for this fight , he said it himself , and hes not a bull**** ***** , so i believe him, we saw how strong he really is in the championship rounds against pavlik , he will be that way against williams . Martinez UD or late TKO
Paul would only need to make a few minor changes to dominate Martinez. Fight tall, stop falling in, snap that jab non-stop. The whole Williams/Martinez/Pavlik triangle is quite interesting. A rematch is a winnable fight for Paul or Kelly, but changes need to go in opposite directions. Paul needs to box better, control the range better, and watch his defense a little better. If he would do those things, he could score a much more convincing win. Pavlik needs to say "**** boxing! I'm gonna stomp your ass," and try to turn it into a high intensity brawl.
Martinez beat the crap out of Williams in the first fight, but was cheated by William's personal judges. Martinez did not even have time to train for the fight! I pick Martinez to knock Williams out in a rematch. Williams refused to give Martinez a rematch, and for good reason.
I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be similarly as close as the 1st fight. But given that Martinez fought PW on short notice, I'd go for Martinez by decision on this...
^^^ This. I thought he won the first fight and he had what... 5 weeks to prepare for it? He'll also have had more time to get accustomed to the weight (if at 160). Looked in much better shape against Pavlik.
Come on be serious. What strategic changes is PW gonna make? He fights one way only. Just non stop punching is the only way he knows how to fight. If he actually tries to outbox martinez he is just going to get embarrased. Just face it PW can not make improvements. Martinez can. He can obviously adapt while PW can maybe do what. Throw more?
