I know many are already saying he just beat a bum or whatever.. Maybe so. But it's important to look at the fight and the fighters alone as well. Not just a resume. One thing was very apparent in this short fight, was Williams using his distance very effectively. It's not only difficult in a physical manner to get in close when you have that long jab to work against, but mentally it stresses you as well jknowing you have to overcome that on a regular basis. Another thing, the fight was essentially over about 30 seconds before it was officially over. Kolle was done and you could see a beaten man in face and demeanor. All Williams needed to do was close the show. And he did so with a nice close, combination to the body and head. That inside game, combined with his size spells trouble for about anyone from 147 to 160 (not counting 168 till he actually does fight there). he's sitting on his punches and that distance they travel gives them some good momentum. Williams is improving a LOT from the guy who fought Mitchell a couple years ago. He's a different fighter today, and that's trouble for a lot of fighters.
Good post. Something else that i noticed was the size of Williams, he completely dwarfed a natural middleweight in size and he had the power as well, which is really scary when you think about it.
It's hard to tell, he lost right after winning the title and he's only had 2 rounds of fighting since the loss. Can't knock him for 1st round knockouts, quite the opposite. But it's hard to tell how his progression is going with so little fight footage to analyze. I'd like to see him fight a named opponent, personally I'd like Vernon at 154, good career move.
Williams did everything he was expected to do in this fight, it simply doesn't tell us much because Kolle is not on par with serious fighters at 147 154 or 160
IMO he didnt dwarf him, he was the same height and looked 'skinny' just like his opponent. the only thing i noticed, physically, was his far superior reach which he used to good effect in the short time the fight lasted. It was a good win at 160 but lets not forget he's fought there before and he is aprx. 6"1. Can williams use his reach and boxing skills against pavlik?? which is the ultimate goal as a fight was there to happen before. I dont think so, he will be a force at 147 and 154 but abraham and pavlik would be too strong for him in the long run. But who knows, he's an extraordinary boxer who's moving up and down many weight divisions which is exciting and good 4 boxing!!!
you got to be kidding right !?!? The only thing fresh in anyone mind about Quintana is him counting lights !!!! Quintana will be known as the man that got lucky.
Considering how easily Quintana outboxed him the first time around im confident someone else will do the same ..Beating a Kolle by KO did not impress me !Sorry if it did others !
It is still fresh in my mind that Paul Williams seriously underestimated Quintana and is liable to do the same thing with any number of fighters at 147 154 or 160. If the Quintana fight showed us anything, it is that Paul Williams can not bail himself out, on a bad night, with a single punch.
