    Cristobal Arreola vs. Brian Minto

A spirit scrap. Brian Minto was beaten because he was the smaller man and nothing else. He just didn’t have the power or resistance to deal with the weight disparity. Arreola is who he is, the guy will NEVER be in shape for a fight. He’ll be decent to watch while he lasts since he likes to bang.

    Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez

How many times do I need to point out how badly Paul Williams just pushes his punches and leans in? He got caught with so many punches that he had no business getting caught with. Williams’ head sits so incredibly high when he’s throwing that it’s no wonder he gets tagged at will by anyone with an ounce of counterpunching ability. So many went on and on about how Williams made improvements after the first Quintana fight and I disagreed. Fortunately for Williams, he was able to get rid of Quintana quickly in the rematch, because he has absolutely no answer for sharp counters down the pipe. Williams is so enamoured with high volume punching that he neglects so many other important parts of the fight game.

That said, Williams has a lot of heart and desire to win, and I believe he would be well served to just learn to fight behind a jab at times so that his aggression isn’t so predictable. If he’d set up his aggressive bursts with educated jabbing, he would be a tough nut to crack.

Martinez fought smart throughout, despite ultimately having some difficulty dealing with Williams’ pressure. Though he may have been a bit tired late, he gave a good account of himself. He would give trouble to any fighter at 154lbs.
Why I believe this was such an excellent, resilient fight: Both of these guys are winners. They like to win, they know how to win, and they both absolutely have the mindset of a winner. Their styles meshed for an entertaining bout.

My score: 114-114. I wouldn’t quarrel with either fighter getting the decision, despite the one obviously horrid card. They need to start banning bad judges.

i know people its been saying that about judges...they will never get banned as long there is money....and also if martinez gets a rematch against williams or cintron(maybe even margo)i think he would beat them up!

If Minto was 6' 4" and weighed 235lbs the heavyweight division would be in trouble.

It would be interesting to see what Minto could do vs somebody his own size.

Arreola, I wasn't impressed with his boxing, but he has the gifts you have to be born with to succeed; rock solid jaw and an explosive punch.

That may be true. Hard to really enforce anything.

Yes, Minto actually showed some good ability in there. Tremendously outsized, though. Dwarfed in the ring with Arreola.

Arreola does have a lot of bad habits in there, I'll agree.
