With all the fuss surrounding the Pac/Margarito fight, I lost touch with this.... Anyone know why in the **** the fight is @a catchweight?
I don't even see why it matters.. SM campaigned a decent amount of his career @ 154.. it really doesn't matter to me atleast
Cause Williams camp says that since they thought Williams will fight at ww next that Williams weigh in at 152 pounds but since hbo demanded Williams to fight Martinez again, the catchweight was agree upon. I don't like catchweights but since both Williams and Martinez are not true mw, i don't think there should be a problem. The first fight Martinez weigh in at 159 pounds while Williams weigh in at 157 pounds.
I still remember Paul Williams want to fight Pacquiao at the cathweight somewhere in 150+lbs. Maybe he demanded it to convince Team Pacquiao he can make that weight easily. :?
On paper you are correct... But team Williams looks bad for this, especially since Willy has been campaigning at MW for a while now.
And lets not forget before Martinez vs Williams was announce, Martinez wanted to fight Mosley at 155 pounds. Umm people 155 pounds? That's 2 pounds under 157 pounds. So if he had no problem with 155 pounds then whats the f4ck the problem with 157 pound catchweight?
I could see a pac williams fight at 150 or something, that would be bull**** then fight fully as a welter and make him fight you there if he claims he can easily weigh and be active in that division.
i've been reading a lot of threads here lately and most defined catchweight as to gain advantage; to 'weight drain' the other fighter
I agree. Just like Pacquiao shouldn't be the 8th division champion since the last 2 were catchweights.
Martinez has been on a Party rage apparently since winning the middleweight title and the Williams camp believe it will favor their fighter to drain Martinez as much as possible. P.S. Can you guys believe that the lineal champion at middleweight, Martinez is not getting ANY sponsorship or gate money for this fight? Source was xaM boxing. Once again shows that Al Haymon fighters receive special treatment from HBO.
