I think Martinez was landing the bigger shots, but Williams rallied in the middle rounds.

A couple dead even rounds towards the end, and Martinez in the last two.

A draw would have been fair.

    Can't wait for the rematch.

Your rationale is a complete joke, and you would do yourself a service by not adding Harold Lederman into the equation.......most in this forum have little respect for Harold Lederman in case you did'nt know.

Martinez and it wasn't even close. How many times did I see Martinez knocked Williams' head back?! This is a no-brainer.

What you're saying is true for the 10 round must system, but in this case it seems unlikely. I felt that a prime example of the 10 point system failing a fighter was the Guzman/Funeka fight. Funeka clearly won the fight last week, but because of the 10 point must system, it was scored a draw.

In the case of the martinez/Williams fight, i don't see how your friend could've scored the fight so onesided for Williams unless he was just looking at punch output. It doesn't make sense this time.

Exactly Farmy.........According to punchstat, which often times never tells the true story.....Williams outjabbed Martinez......but anyone with the gift of sight, could see that even in the jab department, it was Martinez' jab which was causing more damage and being more effective.

I'm not saying Williams' did'nt land some good jabs, but Martinez' jab was jolting and snapping Williams' head back on a rd by rd and consistent basis.

Not only did Martinez landing the better powershots, his jab was more effective than Williams' as well.

You could see the sweat fly off Williams head over and over again. Blood coming out of Williams mouth also. Williams had to go the the hospital after the fight.

I agree, Martinez punches were more effective than Williams and should of got the nod. I'm ok with Williams winning the fight, it was a fight with close rounds but that 119-110 card is a travesty.

Like I stated before, several years ago some States would take all the scorecards and take 1 round at a time, to see who won the round on the 3 scorecards. If boxer "A" won a round on 2 out of the 3 scorecards, it would be scored for that boxer.

When my good Friend Larry Hazzard was the New Jersey Commissioner he did that for a while. The only reason it was not a success is that we all thought it was more drama announcing each card individually.

It's like sitting around with your friends and asking each of them who they thought won the round and then scoring it that way as a hold. The on line scoring does the same thing.

So scoring this way is far from a joke, it has been used, BUT I too like the individual scoring better. If they did it that way using only the 3 Judges, the score would have been 116-112, with Martinez taking rounds 2, 3, 10 & 11.

I give both fighters 10 in a tied round, close fight, close rounds, You could make a case Martinez stole some rounds with big shots at the end but take into consideration the rest of the round was Williams...NO ROBBERY!!!

    1. Tie
    2. Martinez
    3. Martinez
    4. Williams
    5. Williams
    6. Williams
    7. Williams
    8. Tie
    9. Williams
    10. Martinez
    11. Tie
    12. Williams

    Williams- 116
    Martinez-114

Think the poll says it all...

And please, when comparing the judges:

    a) leave out unofficial scorecards
    b) to count it as a disagreement it doesn't have to contradict both judges, but only one is enough

I think it is about time smth is done about the judging in boxing. It can't be that it's only in Germany rotten...

Sound on, watching it live, i had it 114-114. Just watched it again, and had it clear for Martinez. 8-4, rounds, even with Williams winning the 1st.

I had it 7-5 Williams. I'm a Paul Williams fan so I would have scored the last two rounds based on work rate. However, from a non-biased prospective, I would have understood if it would have went either way.
