hopefully Sergio will get his rematch....i'd love to see him whoop up on Paul again, just imagine what would happen if he actually had proper time to prepare to fight him

but i guess the same can be said about Williams.....but on the other hand, though i thought Williams lost, i was impressed by his heart, he really gave his all in the ring, anybody can respect that, made me a fan...

It's unfortunate the way boxing is scored round to round, PW won rounds 7 and 9 without landing any big, clean power connects but Sergio won his rounds with big booming shots. How many times did William's legs buckle or his eyes roll into his head or snot fly out of his nose? Many times. How many times for Sergio? Once, maybe twice. The scoring was close (I had it 115-113 for Sergio) but the "fight" wasn't close, Sergio did way more damage.

I had it a draw, Williams outworked Martinez and Hurt him a few times but Martinez did much better work he just wasn't consistant.

yeah... you better believe it. Paul has a lot more he can improve on in the rematch than martinez. I think the short notice hurt PW more than it hurt martinez.

No excuses. They should do it again. I am confident that Paul will keep his left hand up a lot better this time, and concentrate mote on the jab instead of leaning his head in waiting to be caught.

I scored a draw actually, but Martinez looked the more effective of the two. However on a round by round basis I had a draw.

I thought Martinez won a clear, but close decision. He landed the cleaner more effective punches and even with his hands down at his side was able to make Paul miss alot of shots. Unlike compubox i don't score those piddy pat punches paul throws as power shots. Paul has no defense for the over hand/high hook punches and was there to be hit almost everytime Martinez threw it. I generally take the who would I rather be approach to score most close rounds and based on that and the cleaner more effective punches I feel Martinez earned a decision. I scored it 7-5. Looking at Paul's face and reaction after the fight I don't think he thought he won and I don't think he felt like he won that night or the next day.

I wonder how many people who thought Williams lost also thought Calzaghe lost....and vice versa.....Quantity of punches Williams and Slappy) verses more effective punching(Martinez & Hopkins ).....

And stamina issues....Willams and Calzaghe clearly displayed better lungs....

Interesting enough Calzaghe like Williams also looked/acted like he lost the fight

Let me correct you on a few things........
As far as effectiveness is concerned, Hopkins was very sporadic in his clean connects against Calzaghe.
Hopkins was'nt being very consistent in his round to round approach.
Martinez was thumping Williams.......and it was happening virtually every round, clean, hard, visibly accurate clean connects that even someone who's not a boxing fan and watches boxing very little would see clear as day.
Sometimes it takes someone who's a little experienced and watched alot of boxing to pick up on who's landing cleaner and more effectively.
The Williams-Martinez fight was not one of those fights.
The clean more effective connects were easy to spot, and virtually all of them were coming from Sergio Martinez.

......and lastly, Calzaghe's body language never indicated he was the loser.....in fact to the contrary....it showed just how confident he was that he was winning when in one of the late rounds he turns a charging Hopkins and with Hopkins back to him, gestures in make belief fashion that he's dry humping him.

.....yeah, sounds and looks like a fighter who thinks he's behind on the cards!

....to the contrary, the look on Williams' face and his body language indicated he'd been beat.
.....not to mention everytime Williams went back to his corner, his team was'nt pleased at all with him.

Martinez corner was nothing like that.

It sounds as if you believe that Martinez clearly won.....I obviously am not as sure as you in your summations....I was only attempting to create a basis for comparison....nothing more nothing less.....

I know what you're saying, and let me help you clear it up.......

It was competive, but it was not close.

Williams was competing, but he was'nt winnning rounds.

This fight was very similar to the Juan Manuel Marquez vs Barrera fight.......MAB was competing, but he clear as day was'nt being as effective in his connects in comparison to Marquez.

Whether you analyze the power connects or even the jabs.......Williams by punchstat outjabbed Martinez, but anyone iwith the gift of sight could see Martinez jab was jolting Williams' head back......in other words, Martinez jab was being more effective than Williams, who had a sizeable reach advantage.....who would have thought that before the fight?

I scored it for Williams by a point, but I think Julie Lederman's scorecard was the most appropriate for this fight. A rematch is needed, very close fight.

    PS: Death to Pierre Benoist.

i dont think its possible for an objective viewer to see martinez as the winner. paul williams won a tough fight.
