Verno was a champion( well he vacated his IBF title to fight Williams for the WBO interim title) and an experienced veteran. He just beat Spinks months earlier, has great wins of his own and has been at the top for a long time. Also, you mention how Quintana caught Williams with overhands but don't forget that they were overhand LEFTS and from the southpaw stance. You couldn't find more difference styles between Quintana and Mosley to be honest.
Q to me was only a B fighter and he beat him the first time. Williams still got caught with some overhands and yes he stopped someoen he should have stopped the first time. Whatever excuse he wants to use for his first lost, it doesn't matter. You come into each and every fight on a mission. Yes, he is getting better, but I don't think he can come back down to WW being away so long. The knockout streak will end if he fights Mosley. Styles do make fights, but where there is a will, there is a way.
I was just being a little sarcastic, but I am fully aware who and what Phillips has accomplished. If someone wanted a title at 154, then you go after the weakest (Phillips). Maybe your right about the southpaw stance, but with Mosley's experience and attention to detail, he will find a way to have Williams taste the canvas and win by decision.
Id doubt that..Paul has pretty good footwork and he has a lot more "boxing skills" than does Antonio..Shane struggles vs taller bigger fighters-Just see Forrest and Winky...Paul is a much better technical boxer than Tony as well!
Mosely on current form beats any welter but once your 37 you dont consistently produce efforts like he did vs Margo. The outcome all depends on which Mosely shows up.
And to add to you guys' posts, SSM would probably get a little frustrated in the early rounds and PW will use his jab to put those rounds in the bag.
I think Mosley can land his right hand with ease on Williams, if Verno Philipps could do it in the early rounds against Williams then Shane could do it all night. Shane has struggled with tall fighters but he could win a close decision.
These are alot of opinions being thrown out there. I just hope we get the fight, but if williams fights Winky at 160, I don't see Williams melting back down to WW. The jab is what is going hurt Shane, but I feel that Shane is going to affect Williams more with his body shots.
Il keep it real Shane doesnt do well against guys bigger than him. Espcially guys with the reach that Williams poses. I dont think he has the power to really hurt him but Shanes got to tuck in defensively and really get inside of Williams jab.
Ok let's think about this for one second, what taller fighters did Shane struggled against? Winky and Forrest, those fighters are a level above Williams. You honestly think Williams is as good as those 2? Williams is a bit overrated imo. William's defense is ****, not Margarito ****, but still **** and Mosley will capitalize on that with huge shots all night if they ever fight.
The southpaw stance and reach advantage would cause problems for Shane. Williams outworks him to a close UD.
I'm wondering, didn't Williams moved to 154 already? I just don't see how he can still make 147. Even if he did he will be way too weak to fight against someone like Mosley.
Williams didn't leave 147 because he couldn't make weight, he left for more fights. There is no logic or backing to the current train of thought that Williams struggles, has struggled, or is struggling to make 147.
