well Pavlik's camp wanted Williams to wait just two more weeks so that Pavlik could get a full training camp in (which he would need) ... but Williams camp declined ..

Oh yeah .... they wanted two more weeks ... what about the weeks leading up to the fight?

It doesn't make sense to me ...

To my understanding he was still running, hitting the weights, and doing light boxing workouts ...

guess you forgot the small fact that HBO would've said FU since showing fights around Xmas is a sure losing prop.

what doesn't make sense to you?

He wanted a full 12 week training period to prepare... Pavlik is NOT afraid of williams and if you think that then you are hopeless. Pavlik would not have been able to get a full camp in before the dec 5th date, and they know that they need to take Williams seriously, on top of the fact that Pavlik nearly died and has been very inactive...

He needs a full camp to fight Williams, it's not worth it to risk going in not 100%...

Pavlik's camp asked for the dec 19th date and even gave incentives if Pavlik wasn't able to fight on that date. Williams Declined.. so enough of this bull**** about pavlik ducking Williams, that's just delusion.

And now you got Williams talking as if the Pavlik fight is dead to him lol.... he wants to be a Middleweight champ? Last I checked you need to beat the Champ.. Pavlik is Champ. Williams needs that fight

Who said Pavlik was affraid of Williams ... I don't think thats the issue ... I don't think Pavlik is affraid of anyone, but when it comes down to it, the fight doesn't make too much sense for Pavlik when he has bigger fish ahead of him that are in his reach. All he has to do is defend that championship for as long as he can and then make that jump up in weight. They (his team) wants to make sure he's in position for those big fights ... and I wish he was in the super six ... bull**** for them not to ask him. He might have had to take a pay cut but he would've made some serious noise ... he would beat most of those guys and in some exciting fights too ... I think he beats Ward, loses to Dirrell, and beats Abraham, Froch, and Kessler.

What position would he be in had he lost to Williams? ... Williams will receive all the glory and all of the benefits. They can duck and play games with Williams until they're ready to move up in weight.

um. PW is by far his biggest payday between here and sometime in late 2011 and 2012. Who are you trying to kid? It's about money. He's got nowhere else to turn. He's making peanuts on this PPV and if he decides not to fight PW or Bute that's what he'll continue to make for the next couple years.

i hear what you are sayin and you make good points as usual :good but here's my take on it. if your kelly, and you believe in your heart that you can beat williams and you know your not afraid of him, but your team is telling you its too dangerous and to put yourself in the best position to move up...do you think that would do something to him mentally?? i know kelly wants this fight and i fully understand your risk/reward argument in light of all the matchups at 168. but considering all the **** that has gone down and all the **** heaped on him (some justified most not) to have his team say williams was too dangerous after all and it just aint worth it may send him the wrong signal like his team doesnt think he can beat the best (second best :D) in the mw division and to just position yourself to move up smw? did i make any sense there?

Williams vs Pavlik is still going to be a major fight. Shame on Williams team for not getting him another fight right after he destroyed Wright. It's been so long he's lost some of the momentum he had off the Kost, Phillips, Wright blow outs. Martinez is being WAAAAAAAY overrated here, but it'll still be good for Paul to get back out and get another dominate win again.

I'm betting Pavlik-Williams happens by early March, and I'll pick Pavlik by late stoppage.
