Look guys I'm Irish but I've never been accused of being biased (not that I recall anyway) because I've always avoided the nationality debate and stuck to the individual merits of the individual boxer.
Casey is still learning his trade.
But here are some facts about Casey

    1> He has a decent KO%
2> He beat the European Mandatory challenger (regardless of the madatory challengers nationality)
3> The mandatory challenger himself won the less sought EBU belt by a clear UD away from home in Italy.
4> Casey himself beat the Canadian champ (and much hyped) Tyson Cave stopping him in his own back yard
5> Casey won prize fighter including a final against a fresh opponent who came in as a substitute

    These are facts.
Casey has a bit of amateur experience.

For these reasons I would give him a chance against KIKO. He may be a slight underdog but not as much as people think.

I also think that Rigondeaux is a class amateur with way mor experience then casey.
If we look at some facts in Rogondeaux's favour

1> The best amateur record in modern times
2> already an interim world champ
3> ranked in the top 5 by most bodies already

Those 3 facts alone tell you Rigondeaux has class.

Casey interestingly has more professional experience but they're both quite green.
If Rigondeaux is as good as some people here think he is then apparently Molitor/Nisioka, even the top fewtherweights Gamboa and Juan Ma better watch out!!!!

Is he that good - who knows.
Is casey bad - definitely not.

Is casey world class - don't think so
Is casey European class - probably
    Is casey ready - no
will case ever be ready? - with a protected approach.

what would I do? I'd take the fight.
Rigondeaux did fail to stop Lante Addy so he is not super man.
The worst case scenario is Casey loses, takes a nice pay cheque, maybe gets offered more opporunities since he is not seen as a threat and still retains his fan club because of his all action style and take anyone on attitude. Casey has a good fan base in the UK & Ireland and would be a good card filler for any promoter on these shores right now.
Poeple like Frampton and Quigg & Martinez and Munroe etc
lots of options even if he loses. I won't believe the offer was made until I see an official press release from Hyde or Dolphil but if its true they would be MAD not to take the fight.

I agree with all off this except you fail to point out Hyland was european mandatory because 3 other fighters dropped out of that position.

To me if you win a vacant title you have no proved yourself to be at that level. Matthew Hatton for example I did not see as european class until he defenced the title agaisnt the Ukranian.

I have never said he doesn't have a chance agaisnt Martinez, but he would be a big underdog. Theres a big chance he loses that fight and then he is nowhere. So he may as well lose to Rigo and still have something to offer.

    Also its an interim title.

I didn't know that about Hyland! Can't aruge with that point that he might not have been mandatory if others dropped out but do you know who they were? He did win the EBU (i know its nothing major) title away from home though in style too. And you don't get decisions in Italy that easy.

Munroe vacated to fight for the WBC in Japan. Booth was his mandatory and he wen't for the IBF agaisnt Molitor. Malotroudou was nominated but withdrew, Arsen Martirosyan then withdrew from injury, Hyland got put forward for the vacant title because Peters won the purse bids for Martinez vs Martiroysion. He was never the mandatory, the EBU just wanted there cash.

ok but in my opinion Hyland is every bit as good as Malotroudou and Martirosyan.
He is a slight leve below booth & Munroe though.

I disagree. no point continuing the arguement. Casey should take his shot and get paid.

thats the point - cinderella story and all that. I was saying that in the sense wouldnt it be great as a come from nowhere fighter, up against the odds fighting a world title holder (?)

the difference between casey and audley is that casey would go out on his shield - I just cant understand the immediate negativity

    Audley = :nut

Hyland is in no way as good as Maludrottu. That guy is a proper fighter, he's only lost against world class opponents and gave Munroe one hell of a fight. He's beat decent fighters like Napa and Kelly, and has never been stopped.

I agree he's not as good as Maludrottu, who beat Munroe imo, but he's not as bad as he's being made out to be. He is better than Matiroysan.
