This weekend I met Willie Featherstone and was interessted if anyone ever saw him fight. He told me he was the Canadian and Commonwealth Light heavy champ and fought Virgil Hill for the world title in Bismark in 88.
Sure enough I looked up his record and he 100 % legit. He was a very nice guy and owns his own biz.He quit after a Commonwealth title loss to Guy Waters in Australia and said he was so disalusioned with the judges decision he retired there and then.A great guy and was very humble.Any info would be appreciated as I am just curious.Cheers!

Willie Featherstone is and always has been a very nice guy, Fatcity. Humble, like you say, and quite soft spoken and generally a little shy. Still a great guy and the last I heard of him he was operating his own repair business down by/in Toronto that dealt with household appliances and such.

I don't know what I can tell you about his boxing career beyond what you can find on the net (a rather accomplished amateur up here in winning apx 85 of 90), although it's worth noting that he was very lucky to even have a career after that horrible motorcycle accident he had during the early 80's. Busted his body up quite bad in that one (broken back, busted both knees, etc), and there was plenty of doubt from doctors in regards to if he'd even be able to walk normally again, nevermind continuing his pro boxing career. With all the determination and courage he could possibly muster, Willie made it happen, though, and was able to make some suprisingly decent money fighting up here in Canada while working towards that shot at Hill.

Thanks.Willie said that he owned and operated his own biz and as you say he was very humble, not bragging at all.He never mentioned a motorcycle accident but it makes sense as he said his career was interupted with an accident.I wrongly assumed it was a car accident. He mentioned his manager was a really great guy who took a very small portion of his purse and really just wanted Willie to get his rightful shot.He did make a couple of bucks as he said the last few fights enabled him to pay off his mortgage on his new house and start up his own biz.
    A terrific guy,I agree.:good

Glad to see he's doing well. As Sam said, he did well to work himself into title contention against Hill, and made a pretty good name for himself as a LH in Canada. There was talk of a potential super fight with Lalonde at one point, but the losses to Hill and Waters and his subsequent retirement put an end to that.
