I will accept he is the WBU champion, which is meaningless.

I will not accept that he is World Champion. If Willie had just won the belt and said "Now i want a British title this is a stepping stone" it would be been fine, but he said he is a world champion thats what has pissed me off.

HE IS NOT A WORLD CHAMPION!!!

I did an interview with a guy last week. His CV said that he had a degree from Nottingham University, I contacted the Uni to get a refrence and they told me he dropped out in his 1st year. For me this is exactly the same thing as Willie is doing. There are boxers who work very very hard to become legitimate world champions and there are people like myself who work very hard to get a degree. Limmond and the guy that lied on his CV have taken the easy route. It cheapens the achievment of others. Its a total con.

The belt clearly does not give anyone an insentive to fight him. I have never heard of a WBU champion getting called out because they want the swimming badge belt. Infact Alex Arthur came out this week and said he is not interested in fighting Limmond because of the WBU belt. Arthur is by far the biggest fight out there for Limmond.

You say its not the belt that makes someone a champion its the win, well a points win over Ryan Barret does not make you a champion.

I used to agree with your comment about Limmond conducting himself in a good mannor, but now he calls himself a world champion when his belt is not better than the Scottish Title.

Can you not see that, that is the point I am making but while I concede to that I understand why Willie has done it. Is Willie Limond ever going to be a legitimate world champion? With respects to Willy i'm 99% certain he won't but that he has chosen to forward his career in this manner is a wise move based on his career thus far.

I think your understanding of the sport as a business is very poor. I like your idea of putting an ad in boxing news etc but thats not Willies style and if there were any justice he wouldn't be forced to go down the WBU route.

IMO willie would beat murry and thaxton given the chance how the holmes show can say they would anialate willie is very disrespectful and clearly doesn't know limond as a person or a boxer.

I think Limond vs Murray/Thaxton would both be good fights.

Murray is simply nuthugged by the anti-Khan brigade.... hasn't done anything special really and IMO lost to al-Hamidi.

Thaxton is probably on the slide now, his failure to get rid of Mezaache was really frustrating, and he gassed badly as the fight went on. His power could be an equaliser though.

Sorry i must have mis read. However I disagree that its a wise career move. In the short term its good but in the long term its bad. Again nobody has been able to name a non Warren fighter than benefited from the WBU.

I disagree when you say my understanding of the busienss side of the sport is poor. I actually think its quite strong. I am fasinated by it, but in truth I care way more about fighters legacys and the greater good of the sport than any of there bank balances.

Saying it is not Willies style to call people out is fair enough. But a year ago when Willie Limmond came on here to thank the fans for there support regarding him fighting Salita at a higher weight in New York I would of told you he was a guy with dignity and honour. To think that he is now claiming to be a world champion after winning the WBU disapoints me and other true boxing fans. I think its allot more dignified to call guys out and put an ad in boxing news (Which Haye did to push the Macceranelli fight remember) than to claim to be a world champion when you are 100% not.

You will obviously think your own fighter will win those fights. Fair enough.

Personally I do not rate Murray at all. Thaxton is on the slide so it could be a good time for Willie to fight him.

At this moment in time, I favour both Murray and Thaxton. As long as neither fight is for the WBU I would be excited about both fights.

Your missing the point, a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao will deservdly be billed as a fight between the worlds two best fighters.

A fight between Limmond and Barret was billed as a world title fight, which it is not.

When John Simpson fought Derry Matthews, Simpson was the British Champion. But they fought for Matthews WBU belt. The fight should of been for the British title and not for the WBU.

I think he was just making the point that Limond-Thaxton is no better or no worse a fight for being for the WBU title.

Id rather it was a British title eliminator.

Listening to the announcer call Limmond WBU World Lightweight Champion just makes me sad. Listening to the scots scream I am thinking, you all just got mugged off. These fans all think they have seen a world title fight. Its a joke

I could create a belt called ESB and crown Rob the heavyweight champ. It doesn't make owning impressive at all.

British, Commonwealth, European, Area titles, WBC and WBA have history that legitimise them. They also have solid competition in all weight classes. These orgs have depth in every way. They have flaws but they have depth.

The WBU is the trinket of trinkets with absolutely no depth. I think they have 2 champs at the moment or something disgusting like that.

They disgrace the sport. **** like the WBU angers me.

I love Limond as a fighter but by fighting for the WBU he has damaged our sport. Just like Hatton and many others. I can't forgive them for that. They are helping to legitimise something I wouldn't wipe my arse with.

I never claimed to be a world champion, dont believe all you read rob, im not going to even argue about this cause i cant be arsed, if i get better title shots in the future al take them, but as it stands no one is knocking on my door, so im doing what i can before calling it a day, and another thing Ryan Barrett is a good fighter and a total gent i give him 100% respect and hes not the English champ for nothing, so lets put this to bed rob and stop brining it up, and the only offer ive had of the mcallasters is when his da was drunk following me about a hotel asking me to fight his boy! all in good fun tho

Hatton has damaged boxing???? Isn`t that going too far? Nobody here is arguing that Willie is the best in the world. The WBU title is what it is. Nobody who knows about boxing believes it to be significant. But its there and somebody is going to its belts at each weight.
I suspect that this thread is not really about the WBU issue but about old personal gripes.
