Headlining at the Minneapolis Armory this Friday on FS1.

Monroe (currently ranked WBC #5/WBO #9) was originally scheduled to face Immanuwel Aleem (WBC #11/WBA #13) but late this morning Aleem had to withdraw, leaving the organizers to scramble to find a suitable replacement.

edit: there have been whispers this afternoon that Monroe will face Javier Francisco Maciel instead, and BoxRec has already published an updated card with this match-up, but they've jumped the gun before. Let's wait and see whether it ends up being V-Mart or La Bestia when the dust settles, with an official announcement likely to be made soon. Neither man is currently ranked top 15 by any major org, FWIW.

I hope it ends up being V-Mart, tbh. Being a longtime Maciel fan I have no wish to see him schooled & humiliated (and possibly even countered into a pulp and stopped) - which is the inevitable result based on styles with Monroe.

I wouldn't favor the Armenian outright, but he'd be a lot trickier and pose a legitimate stylistic challenge, even on very short notice.

Both Monroe and Vanes are good. This could be a cracker of a little dust up.

V-Mart would be the best name on Monroe's record by far. Maciel would be maybe 4th.

I've never been a fan of Monroe, I still don't see why he was
ever really in the conversation. Vanes should win this going away.
Golovkin didn't beat on him long enough to have ruin't him

Vanes only loses to elite guys.

Why does Vanes receive so many fights on short notice?
Charlo 3 weeks, GGG 2 weeks, Willie Monroe jr. 4 day notice.

Vanes could beat Willie Monroe, but it depends if he was in the gym training all this time.

Monroe Jr. didn't score a stoppage win for about five years.

I think Vanes has a solid chance here if he'll fight him on Saturday.

I continue to question Vanes management. First they failed to build him up in the LA region where there's a nice Armenian presence. Now they've turned him into a short notice opponent.

Seems **** poor for a guy with a solid amateur background and decent skill set.

I’d much rather see Vanes than Maciel, but at the same time, I’d like to see Vanes team try to talk him out of it. He’s too good to be this type of short notice opponent
