Not to be that guy that disagrees to be cool, because I like your post, but the opposite side is that he's 32 coming off a 2 year inactivity stretch. He may be looking to cash out within a year or two and get out while young. And that would be a good thing too. His management through his whole career seems on the negative side I doubt he's looking to rebuild. Maybe he becomes a cult hit at the end of his career as a short notice and late-appreciated attraction. That too would be good... I don't know, just rambling. But he's always been the guy passed over and has fallen short when he's had his shots plus 2 year inactivity is a big deal with it. And, well, he broke that inactivity by getting KTFO2.

I get where you’re coming from, and if that’s the thinking, I’m cool with it but I still kinda hope you’re wrong just because that kind of strategy can go so horribly wrong. Maybe he hopes an upset here can restart his career in a positive fashion so he doesn’t have to do what you’re saying though. Either way, what you’re saying isn’t the worst thing in the world and I would be fine with it, it’s just not ideal.

If Vanes lands the shot that he did against GGG, it could be all that's needed.....

Monroe showed his level when he lost to an out of shape, unfit and non-motivated Saunders.

Did Vanes accept the fight, hopefully he gets a decent purse.

    The beauty of tournaments.
    ESPN's Boxcino tournaments were fantastic!

Monroe got a lot of exposure from winning it and then he got a high profile W over Brian Vera.

I ****ing miss ESPN FNF. Now that they are investing into boxing again, i am hoping for a return of FNF.

Lets not forget that Trout has ducked Vanes for years, for some reason Vanes has called out Trout several times and Trout always declines. Vanes did beat him 3 times in the amateurs.

Why would team Monroe offer the fight to Vanes, and then go silent. Hopefully the fight goes through and their not just bullshitting Vanes with the offer.

My guess is they were desperate to keep the date afloat so they sent offers to as many available people as possible, and then when Maciel and Martirosyan both RSVP'ed it got awkward in a hurry as they couldn't decide who to accept (Martirosyan for slightly higher risk - even though he's coming off getting crushed by GGG and Maciel is riding a three win streak - but also more street cred, or Maciel for the inverse of both...)

Sort of like a dorky kid asking two reasonably attractive girls to prom (one a little cuter, the other with more personality) and then whoops, they both said yes.

Whoever it ends up being in the main event, PBC is dumping all of its bench-warmers (some of them recycled properties going nowhere, a couple of genuine but still green prospects) into the undercard...

Jamontay Clark, Jamal James, Sebastian Fundora, Caleb Truax, Antonio Russell, and Efe Ajagba. Gimmes for all, of course.

Looks like Maciel is taking the fight. It sucks that Vanes was offered the fight with less than a week, accepted and now they are going with someone else.
