thanks guys. I made this video and a couple of willie pep when i was researching this style of footwork. lots of lateral movement and direction changes, great style to watch.
That's some olive oil slickness right there, guys. Unmistakable. Thanks for posting. Thanks for making.
A lot of excessive movement, spending his energy for nothing. Good for him he only had to last 15 rounds once.
Pastrano had great footwork and even if Ali was to much for him in sparring it doesn´t matter, Ali is the greatest of all time and you have to be blind not seeing that Ali was influed by this, their moves are similar, Ali just took it a level higher. The Predator
That was sort of my point. Comments earlier made it seem preposterous that Ali could hang with Pastrano in sparring but of course he could, Ali was significantly bigger even as a kid. And Pastrano looks breathtaking there. What made him so inconsistent.
Well that explains a lot. Still he wasn't a total underachiever. He was light heavyweight champion of the world for a couple of years...
It's very nice, but too energy consuming, I'd say. You have to rely on great legs to get away with that. It's a nice watch, but if I was showing someone perfect defensive footwork the Marquez-Pac fights would win out over Pastrano-Johnson every time.
I wouldn't show either.Marquez worked well with what he had footwork-wise, but it was more his excellent counterpunching that kept Pac at bay.I'd show many different boxer-punchers before Marquez for defensive foot positioning.Unless maybe it's for showing someone doing well with the basics, without great technique or footspeed.the 2nd and especially 3rd fights would be as good as any for that. True that Pastrano's style needs strong physical attributes though. He's not that much more idea for a young amatuer\pro to studyl than the likes of Ali, Buchanan, Rodriguez or Chang in terms of intuitive movers.
Don't agree with that at all. The technique of his footwork in those fights is close to perfect and a very important reason as to why his counter punching is so effective in the first place.
