Touchy McVey? I wasn't being funny with you there, and it wasn't my criteria, it was the criteria of the GPater who was the poster that started the thread and therefore the criteria that satisfies the question. Me and Mantequilla asked GPater to be a give us a strict definition and he did. It was his question to the board. Maybe you should have read through the thread before jumping on me, hardly any need.

So Locche ticks GPater's boxes and for this thread that's all that counts.

Willie could share the title of "most pure boxer" with Whitaker, Locche, Loughran, Canto and for the short time that he was so gifted, Wilfred Benitez.

See a guy like Benitez was often more of an outright counterpuncher than anything else(though not as much as Locche).

He was outboxed by both Leonard and Hearns and failed to distinguish himself from Emilaino Villa technically. On the other hand he thoroughly outboxed Cerantes imo, only losing three rounds at most. Those are the best technical fighters he fought.

Sure you can say he was better at not getting hit technically than those guys, but strictly speaking he DID get hit more, was outboxed in the real sense of the word, and lost the fights against Leonard and Hearns.it presents a bit of a conundrum.

in other words the answer is Ray Robinson;)

Sorry i was about to say 'the thread starter', then changed it to GPater, my fault.

Okay i was just going with the flow of the post when we were going by your definitions. But we can go by our own now, mine is the same as yours anyway.

slightly past his prime? Pep was CLEARLY past his prime. John Garfield testified this as he saw Pep both in his prime and past his prime. According to John, pep was 50% better pre plane crash. When you break your back and suffer other permanant damage in a plane crash, you are never going to be the same physically...the fact pep was even able to fight again let alone defeat an ATG in sandy saddler speaks on his greatness.

Good Post, I have heard that also That Pep was past his prime before the Saddler fights and the fact that he beat Sadler clearly in a fight that was not marred by wrestling and foul tactics. If John Garfield saw it that way that fortifies my previous belief because Garfield knows his stuff firsthand
