Miguel Canto is up there. Would like to say Griffo, but can't for obvious reasons. Definitely best of his time though.
Willie Pep? Yeah I would say he is because he couldn't punch at all. He still won so many fights. Pep had to rely on his bag of tricks/skills to win. He didn't have that eraser to clear his mistakes.
It would be hard not to agree with this. I cannot think of anyone in my top 10 ( all time) that has the pure boxing skill and defense of Pep.
Willie was more advanced but how much credit should Gans and then Leonard get for evolving the sport?
Had an incredible amount of speed though, hand and foot. And reflexes to allow him to pull off things a lesser athlete wouldn't have.
amazing active fighter and remeber he was in a plane crash and none thought he would return but he did and still had his battles with Sadler after his prime. Lb for Lb Pep is the cream, SRR could do it all, Greb has a resume....Pep was a boxing master
Locche was Argentinian IIRC. I though you were talking about Dululio Loi. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/12668
I wrote about Pep and Locche. I'd much rather be Willie, who was significantly more versatile all-around. I'd also class Pep as the greatest pure boxer ever, with Whitaker, and the best versions of Griffo, Wolgast, and a few others being in the same ballpark.
The way I see it is that those guys set the standard for their generations. They combined all the things that were learned. Willie also did that in his generation.
