Saw these two being compared on another thread so i thought id make a poll on it. Ill admit ive only seen a few clips of Willie Pep but his defensive skills looked out of this world. Thoughts.....
i think its a toss up. if manny tried boxing him like he tries every so often then willie pep definitely wins. IMO to beat pep he would have to bull him and attack him ala sandy sadler. Which is what i see manny doing if this fight were ever possible. ill take manny. many will choose Pep based on reputation and name alone but in all honesty i think pac would win at least 1 of 3 fights.
I'd copy my analysis from the other thread but I can't be bothered to look for it lol. Pep wins for me.
As good as Pacman has been in the modern era, and as good as he is offensively, I can't see him winning this fight. Great power and speed and a very exciting fighter to watch, his skillset has also really improved lately, he's much technically rounded and now no longer one-dimensional. Pep however was like Whitaker notoriously hard to hit flush, with Pacman's speed and power this could end up like the Saddler fights, however I believe Pep would take control and win by UD. ^ My rubbish attemp at an analysis from the other thread.
First off, this thread is null and void without a public poll. Second off, its been discussed already and to great length, and most of the people that will be here shortly havent seen enought Pep footage to comment on the matter, although that won't stop them. Maybe RagingB(_)ll can come here to clean this up in time, I see him lurking about today on the general forum. Here is an earlier post from abother thread:
it's funny how come one made a conlusion that pep will dominate pacman to the pulp, even thought he have not seen a video of pep on how he moves and punch on the ring. I can just imagine without a video footage showing that valero is not a good boxer, i think a lot of poster here will pick him over pac based on his 24 KO's or TKO, but thanks to youtube, his footage there shows that it's not wise to pick him over pac. See the point?
That's what I think.. Pac putting on relentless pressure and bullying him with his power complimented with his speed.. Too bad this is a "in your dreams" fight, huh?
not really, he is after all top 10 ATG on a lot of peoples list..i think pac has a chance but pep is the choice to go not totally underestimating pac. Perhaps out of 5 matches pac can win 1 or 2
it depends on any "bums" or "non bums" they each have on their record.i suggest you all consult boxrec.
Pep takes this one for me. Don't go confusing Manny Pac with Saddler. And don't go inflating Manny's stature as a fighter due to a win over the brave but limited David Diaz. Marquez schooled Pac for the majority of their two fights; Pep does a better job on him.
This is one of those Graziano-LaMotta what-if-they-fought threads for me, a -- surprising I haven't seen it posed before. It has special significance for me: Been watchin' Manny train religiously since he came to the States; and when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, I trained with Pep (actually sparred with him -- if ya could call it that -- at the tail-end of his career) Aside from the day-'n'-night differences in their styles, there's one point that stands out most: Pep's brilliance was like looking at a masterpiece -- clear for all to see and admire. With Manny, it almost defies belief where he gets his devastating punching power, stopping sparring partners in their tracks. What he throws look like arm punches. It even perplexes him (makes him giggle) when I've pointed it out in sparring footage. Willie at his best could befuddle Pac . Think what Marquez did and double it. And, unlike Saddler, under no circumstances, would Pac rough'm up or fight dirty. ("I'm a sportsman") But, if Willie let up for an instant, no question Pac would light'm-up.
