Who wins? This is the defensive master, against the offensive hurricane.. I'd take Willie Pep by a wide UD.. I like this matchup though :happy
Southpaws always give conventionals problems. I am sure Pac's power is close to Saddler's power. But if Pep's footspeed is significantly greater than Pac's, then Pep will just dance around staying out of the way and pepper Pac to win a UD.
Pep would make Pac look more foolish than Marquez did, and would avoid getting knocked down as often. Pep by decision in a stylistic nightmare for the Pac Man.
Pepp wins 12-0 - Marquez just about won 11rounds against Pac who wouldn't land anything because hes too predictable and has a terrible defense
pep used dirty tactics, he wouldnt be able 2 pull that **** with 2days ref. probly get sum points taken away but is still winning til he gets caught by mannys fatass left hand i love manny
Pep has what it takes to dismantle Pac, and Pac has what it takes to stop Pep. At their best though... Pep takes the decision... even at 130.
Pep wins all 12 rounds with out thowing a punch. People would go EEE and Ohhh during the perfect showing.
It'd be ugly for Pacquiao, similar to Mayweather-Gatti in my opinion. Definately a Pep stoppage. Pacquiao is not a tricky southpaw, he's a onedimensional plodder with severe fundamental limitations to his style. Yes he has great handspeed and power, but Pep is a master boxer, tough as nails, and Saddler was an extremely large (dimension-wise, height, reach) featherweight, and an extremely dirty fighter. These were probably the two most significant factors in his fights with Pep. Pacquiao is not. Pep would box him on the outside, on the inside, and bamboozle Pacquiao for six rounds or so before the crowd got their moneys worth and he put him to sleep.
:blood C'mon, this is a blatant case of romancing the old timers. I'd say the odds of it going down like that are about 1/100. Pacquiao is no Gatti. Pep didn't have the power to hurt Manny. At all. If Morales, Barrera, and Marquez couldn't, Pep sure as hell can't. Pep very well may outbox him, but Pacquiao's own speed and power(plodder? are you serious?) could cause problems for Pep to figure out as well. I'd say Pep plays more of a countering, slipping game with him, but does not dominate this fight. Pacquiao is the aggressor, and the one throwing the big leather(bound to land some with his speed, otherwise I would say Pep dominates), but Pep is outboxing/outslicking him for the most part. Surely no stoppage though.
I've never "romanced" the old-timers. I call it how I see it. I'd expect a similar result if Mayweather fought Pacquiao at 130. People were also saying Mayweather couldn't knock Hatton out at 140, but when the gulf in skill is that extreme a light puncher can knock out a tough, sturdily-chinned fighter. Manny Steward said himself "Pacquiao doesn't actually box, he just moves around the ring" and he's too reliant on his straight left to really trouble a world-class boxer. Compared to Pep, yes, he is a clumsy plodder. Mexicans are good boxers, but they'll take punches to land one because they have courage complexes. Their fans expect to see brawls. They're not as slick, fast or skilled as Pep, he is simply in another league entirely to Pacquiao, who is the most overrated current fighter today.
We're arguing styles here. Pac's speed is his greatest asset, which would make it harder for Pep to keep a distance and slip punches as effectively. I'm talking purely based on styles here. Pac is by no means slow compared to Pep. Pep's style is a slicker one, one that involves slipping and staying somewhat within range, in order to counter off an opponents miss, or get into good position to target an open area after a good slip. Pac's style involves closing the distance quickly with his speed, and is hard to effectively slip and duck constantly because he prefers to throw combos, rather than simply one shot nowadays. He has improved his game since his first fight with Marquez, when he did rely almost solely on the straight left. Nowadays, he has a bit more variety, and likes to change it up a bit more. The speed and power remains though. I see Pep landing the cleaner, more effective shots because Pacquiao is no master boxer or accurate puncher, and I think Pep will time him pretty well after a time, but Pac's speed and power(things Gatti lacked against Floyd) and especially his relentlessness will keep this fight close. Pac never stops coming. Everyone is so quick to mention this with old-timers like Marciano who pail in comparison to Pac's speed, but with a modern fighter, they act like it pays no consequence. Pac has heart, and is a bull, one with speed and power. Pep is just a bit too slick and skilled for him. But not enough I wouldn't say to dominate him.
I think you make a fair argument. But consider that Pep is a masterful infighter, if Pac closes him down then Pep will be more than happy to stay inside and box him at close quarters where the power of Pacquiaos straight punches is nullified. The only way Saddler managed to maul Pep on the inside was by holding and hitting, spinning him etc etc. I have not seen anything from Pacquiao to suggest he's effective on the inside, although I don't doubt his physical strength. Pacquiao is a pressure fighter, he is not adept at moving side to side, jabbing and boxing. I thought Marquez outboxed him from Rounds2-12 in their bout (although I still scored the fight for Pac) Pep is the most fluid thing I've ever seen in a boxing ring - I can see him fighting inside and out, and just bamboozling Pacquiao. With regards to Pacs relentlessness, lets be fair and not ignore the fact he's been stopped twice, with single bodyshots on both occassions IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN You do make some good points though, so I appreciate where you're coming from with your perspective.
