I will hazard a guess that "self-destruction" would not have been part of their conceptual frame of reference.

I have no problem with this perspective, except that in this case you're not giving any reasons why. You give a very vague impression that he wouldn't do well, but you need to explain--as generally, one tends to lose a fight due to making mistakes. What are Pep's mistakes and stylistic weaknesses that would leave him open against modern fighters? Why is he less sharp? What makes him this way?

Is his size his weakness, as you seem to imply? Strength? Stamina? Footwork? Power? The way he hooks off the jab? His mother's maiden name? What is it about the guy that would leave him weak against the top guys of today? In what way is he a poorer fighter than, say, Manny Pacquiao, or Roy Jones, or Joe Calzaghe? What do the latter do better, and why is it so significant compared to Pep's strengths?

What problem did they have as fighters? They were all world champions, when there was only titlist in each division.

I cannot visualize his style working against the very quick, sharp, accurate punches thrown by recent elite fighters - someone with say Guzman's speed and accuracy is probably landing punches, no matter how elusive you are

Yes, in a more primitive era.

Funny how china has yet to answer any of the above questions. My guess is that he probably won't even attempt to. This is the typical behavior of a troll. When someone corners them, and calls them on their falacious claims they either dance around the issue or avoid it all together.....

The fact that these examples could drink like maniacs, thereby abusing their body in result, could compete at the highest level, is not a telling story of these men, but more of a telling story of the unevolved era.:think

How would his style, more than a modern fighter's, leave himself open to this speed and accuracy? What did he do that would make him vulnerable? Moreover, aren't Pep's speed and accuracy also valid to take into account in this evaluation?

Find me a video of a 1940s contender who looks as sharp as their modern-day equivalilents like Joan Guzman or Oscar Larios

They were hardly getting pissed in the pub a couple of hours before a fight - you're wildly exaggerating things.

But I tell you what; from my observations, skill levels have declined in recent years.
