As Fightnews.com reported, top cruiserweight contender Matt Too Smooth Godfrey suffered a hand injury that has forced him out of his March 6 WBC Cruiserweight eliminator match with former WBO Heavyweight champ Herbie Hide. Promoters for the event are scrambling to find a replacement opponent for Hide on this card, but one well-known cruiser is saying that hes available to step in. That man is Darnell The Ding-A-Ling Man of Takoma Park, MD - recently back from his stint on the fourth season of The Contender. As those who watched the show know, Wilsons time on The Contender did not go well for the former USBA Cruiserweight titlist. Wilsons loss and his overall condition sent him home during the first round of bouts, a situation that Wilson takes full responsibility for. Im actually been training now, Wilson jokes. I totally disrespected boxing (during the show) and I got what I deserved. I know I had a lot of support and to go there (Singapore) and perform like I did really hurt me. I look at an opportunity against Hide as a way to get back into the mix in the cruiserweight division, Wilson continued. Even though it would not be an eliminator (Wilson said the bout would be an eight-round contest), to beat him would put me right back at the top where I need to be. I just want them to know that they dont have to scramble any more. Im willing to take the bout. Wilson (23-8-3, 20 KOs) told Fightnews that he thinks Hide is a serious opponent, but he would be tailor made for his own style. I love watching him fight because he comes right at you and tries to take your head off, Wilson said. Thats what I would expect, for him to come straight at me. This bout would be a great opportunity for me and I hope it comes off.
Ding vs. Hide????? My god, Ding is gonna knock him into next Tuesday. There is gonna be glass all OVER that ring.
ding has a 1 out 10 shot of winning...a punchers chance.....he hasnt impressed in his last 2 big fights..... which i had him having good shots of picking up a belt....but he was damn near shut out both times.....
Hide UD 12. Just because I respect Hide and I'd like to see him regain a championship before retirement. Wilson is dangerous though, Hide better stay on his toes.
