Well, he wasn't on top of the boxing world but pretty close to it. I mean he hadn't lost since losing a close one to Vargas in 1999. He had wins over Mosley twice, dominated Trinidad, fought close with Taylor (a lot of people think he did enough to win), and domianted Quartey. He was a consensus top 3 P4P on most lists. FYI, Hopkins is the one who wanted to fight Winky. I think Winky got somewhat suckered into the fight because he doesn't dodge no one. In retrospect, he shouldn't have fought 10 lbs over 160. And i agree somewhat that Winky isn't great at 160. He's a bit small for a MW.
After what Calzaghe did to Arum's buddy and fellow promoter Warren, look for Pavlik/Abraham to be signed BEFORE RJJ/Cal is even contested.
winky told rafael he got up to 198 pounds while out of the gym. but wants to fight at 160 and possibly 154.
Fighters always overestimate their situation. But it's a known fact that Winky loves to eat in between fights. He's sort of like Hatton but not as extreme. I don't think he can make 154 comfortably. I think i've heard him say that he can't make it anymore. I know he can make 154 for DLH but i doubt it for anyone else.
Winky's career is over, and it's his fault. He outprices himself from all the fights, and honestly he isn't even that good. I think Pavlik would beat him. All this time off, he's just getting older and slower.
No sir, with his skils he can outbox most of the guys at 154 and 160,he will be back in january prolly, again he is underrated:deal
He wanted a september fight with Pavlik-fell down,he is been calling GBP-no answer,Oscar has cut all the phone lines,he is looking for Abraham for january,we'll see,he will definetely be back
I don't know if I posted that earlier or just thought about it. It has been a concern for Arum for a while now that he doesn't think Pav/AA would be as big as it should. Both fighters would deserve a decent pay day out of this.
