Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Winky Wright was set to end a 17-month layoff on Dec. 4, but now he'll have to wait a bit longer to return to the ring. Wright suffered an injury to his left hand sparring several days ago, forcing him to withdraw from a Versus-televised main event against Michi Munoz in Snoqualmie, Wash., Golden Boy Promotions executive David Itskowitch told ESPN.com on Monday night. The card has been canceled, Itskowitch said. "He injured his left hand near the base of the hand near his wrist," Itskowitch said. "He hit someone on top of the head while he was sparring and the hand started swelling up. He had an MRI but I was told he has a 33 percent decrease of strength in his hand." After the injury happened, Wright thought he might still be able to fight by resting the hand for a few days, Itskowitch said. However, on Monday Wright saw a hand specialist, who told him he could not fight next month, Itskowitch said.
