Easy I like his speed and combinations. And He's more likely to go fight and not stand around. Don't you think Winky too is past his prime??? You are more defensive than him.
With wins over Mosley and Tito, and the facts that he is the first ever undisputed 154 lb champ and has a generally agreeable personality, he will get into Canastota.
haha, nah that's just my style. I'm an ass. Hopkins is much further from his prime than Winky. Hopkins will inevitably go down as a far greater fighter than Winky, especially with a win at 42 years old. I don't think you understand how amazing that is, and how hard to accomplish that is at such an advanced age. Hopkins in his prime did everything Winky does better other than keep his ears warm in the winter. I'm only defensive because i find it ridiculous that someone could come to the conclusion you have reached with no valid support. Speed and combos? Hopkins has the ring generalship, controls the pace, great overhand right, excellent bodywork, excellent balance, and a multi-layered defense to boot (its a little more subtle than the ear-muffs).
By 2020 he might be in the HOF, yes. He's not going in as a first ballot. RJJ, Hopkins, Oscar, Floyd all in before Winky.
BHOP out wresttled winky in their match. simple as that. if it was a boxing match winky couldve won. but bernard headbutted and wrestled his way to a win. though winky did give us more entertaining fights at 160 he will be an atg at 154 who could still get a belt at 160
Winky-Hops fight i thought was Damn close, could have gone either way, to much holding and wrestling:-( it would have been a way better fight 3 or 4 years ago at 160..:deal Hopkins at 43 can't fight a full 3 minutes of a 12 round fight anymore, **** with all of the holding and hugging in the Wright fight he looked like he was at a Wedding or Family Reunion:-( Calzaghe will have a field day with him..:yep
Yeah, I agree that Winky gets in the HOF. Especially when you consider some of the guys who are in there already. The Boxing HOF isn't exactly Cooperstown when it comes to high standards about who gets in. As for the topic of this thread, I think Hop is better than Winky on resume', prime for prime, pound for pound, and head to head. I like Winky, but I think Hopkins is obviously better.
what difference does it make if they fight at middleweight or not? Hopkins is a big middleweight and Winky is a big light middleweight. In the end they are 1 division apart no matter what weight they agree on. Hopkins is leagues ahead of winky
Winky is the better fighter....and he would've won if the fight was at middle your right, and that isn't even Winky's best weight. :deal Honestly, If Winky stayed at 154, and not chased the money fights....he would most likely be P4P #1 or #2 right now and Floyd would be avoiding him like the plague.
Winky may be superior to Hops in certain technical aspects of the fight game, but Hopkins is the better overall package when we include the intangibles. Hopkins beat Winky because he roughed him up and made Winky fight his fight. Hopkins and Winky are still two of the best P4P fighters in the sport, and both have been grossly underrated since their contest.
Please explain this to me. Not only did Winky do MUCH better against Taylor then Hopkins did, after 2 chances with him. But Winky was very much in the fight with Hops until he CLEARLY gassed out. How is Hopkins leagues above him. Is Jermain leagues above Winky too? Is Hopkins leagues above Jermain?
In terms of greatness, both Hopkins and Winky are in a different stratosphere than Jermain. Winky clearly gassed out cause Hopkins' opponents always gas out. Hopkins is not leagues ahead of Winky but he has superior ring smarts and ring generalship. Enough to be an overall better boxer.
