Winky says HBO is trying to get him in the ring in FEB against Abraham

They want to build AA into a star, and they know he needs to fight someone the Americans know.

I say do it!

 

Hopefully HBO are more interested in Abraham than Winky...

This is definately a fight AA needs, he should def go for it.

 

Winky already turned a fight with AA.

This isn't the first time HBO has tried this. They offered Winky the fight right after the BHop fight and he turned it down. He felt that he deserved a bigger fight for more money. This is the main reasons he's been out of the ring.

If the fight does happen - I'm still taking Winky as the winner. Think his defense is better than AA's offense.

 

Not a good fight for Abraham to take though.

 

I dont think itll be a great spectacle but its the ONLY American contender with a name. Winky has been outa the ring a long time I think AA would be catching him at a good time. I think AA wins a decision.

Then he should go to the States and knock over someone simple like John Duddy, which should set a unification fight with Pavlik up nicely.

For me Pavlik - AA is one of the best matches in boxing.

AA vs. Winky would kill any public interest for Abraham vs. Pavlik. Winky has a bad style for everyone, but for someone with low workrate and counterpunching like Arthur, it'd be horrible. Winky offers no clean target for AA late-round bombardment, his defense gave problems even for Hopkins at LHW, and the half of the boxing world though he beat Jermain Taylor. THAT Winky Wright beats Arthur Abraham. Vs. a faded, a bit slower version of him, AA might pull off the win, but lose public interest in the boring process.

Horrible fight to promote Pavlik-AA... An early blowout would do some goods, but when was the last time Winky Wright blown away?

It would be a good fight,bad risk/reward fight for Abraham,too dangerous.

 

Winky/Abraham is a great fight for sorting things out at 160. Assuming that Winky can still fight at the level he was at against Jermain Taylor I'd rank him at #2 and AA at #3.

However, it does not seem like a particularly exciting fight from a spectators stand point. Winky's defensive style against Arthur's counterpunching won't provide the kind of action fans want to see.

Opportunities for Arthur to land that big right hand would be few and far between. If he does land, Winky has a great chin, and most certainly knows how to survive being hurt. Winky goes jab-jab-jab; AA beats up Winky's gloves; Wright wins a boring UD.

At least that would bring us to Pavlik/Wright; a fight that has been brewing for years. KP has real anomosity toward Winky, and who wouldn't want to see Pavlik fight someone he genuinely dislikes?

 

Good match-up, too bad it couldn't happen sooner, I'll take Abraham, but who knows...

 

Make it happen, Winky keeps tryign to make himself out to be more than he is, he is not a draw. Maybe its time for him to retire too. I'm tired of all these old USA fighters hanging on forever and not being busy.

Honestly though, winky can make anyone look bad. He is still a top defensive fighter and I see him taking Abraham to an easy decision,

 

Good Post. Pavlik/Wright has been brewing for YEARS. I think that is the real reason Winky wants Arthur. If he beat AA, Pavlik/Wright would be huge.

 

Abraham will only become a mega star if he once again dons the smurf suit. ALL HAIL THE SMURF!
