Here's Floyd Mayweather Sr.'s take on this matchup; ESB: With that said, how would you see Floyd against Winky Wright? Mayweather Sr.: Floyd would beat Winky Wright, let me tell you why. Im being honest about all of this. See styles make fights. Winky Wright covers up [making two fists and covering his eyebrows and the surrounding forehead with inside of the fists (area on the side of the index finger and thumb)] and then come out of his shell. Floyd would hit all over his body and up inside. When he comes out of shell Floyd would be gone. Winky cant out jab Floyd or anything. Hes not even a big puncher. Oscar can punch he cant punch. So I think if they fought Floyd would beat him.
The time has PASSED for this to be a real discussion:yep It went down with Floyd talking too much **** when Wink was still peak at 54. Despite telling the world how BAD he is? Floyd hid behind Arum as they ACCUSE Cotto of doing. Arum changed terms on Shaw when he showed 2 SIGN the previously agreed 50/50 Split. Arum changed to 55/45 and Shaw said NO!! Rightfully so with Wink being THE UNIFIED/REAL 54 Champ while Floyd a "titlist" at 140. Forked tounge and calculated moves, NOTHIN NEW:nono :yikes Now? Floyd got a Chance. Winks not where he was then but ITS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN COTTO:nono Better than Hatton re-run, though
If they were the same size I'd have Floyd picking Winky's defense apart. As a much smaller man, though, Floyd is the underdog in this.
I think Wright is an outstanding boxer and I would pick him to beat anyone at 154 based on his skills and style. I might have to make an exception with Mayweather. Wright is 5′ 10½″ with a 72“ reach. Mayweather is 5′ 8″ with a 72“ reach. So while Wright dose have a 2½″ hight advantage there is no reach advantage. It will also be easier for Mayweather to come up from 147 where he fought at in December of 2007 or 150 in May 2007 than it would be for Wright to come down from 170 in July of 2007 or 159¼ in December of 2006. He last fought at 154 in November of 2004. Wright is an outstanding boxer but aside from a 2½″ he dose not have a physical advantage over Mayweather, who is a better boxer. Mayweather 7 rounds Wright 4 (edit) round 1 round even. No knockdowns.
