WINKY WRIGHT (the man who dominated Trinidad at 160 in '05) vs JAMES TONEY (the man who beat Mike McCallum at 160 in '92) Please vote and explain how you think this fight would go.
Toney by decision. Taylor made is a close fight with Wright, the 92 Toney was considerably better than Toney. Winky has his moments, but Toney for the most part lands the cleaner punches and wins a UD. Winky's face would be busted up afterwards.
Do you think '05 was Wright's hey day ? I used to love watching him around the turn of the century myself, thought this was his best time. Tough call this, intersting match up that could have been a fairly boring fight, one for the purists. I'd say Wright is a natural LMW so if pushed i'd pick Toney by decision, probably close . Toney had his trouble making the weight too so you could say you have an under-sized guy vs an oversized one.
I know that 2005 wasn't Winky's heyday, but it was his best time at middleweight, and unless I want to make this a hypothetical catchweight between peak Winky (lmw) and Toney (who never fought at lmw), it has to be Winky '05. I agree, I see Toney taking a close decision.
