What is the cut off # from being an ATG to simply very good? 100? 150? ATG is too vague. HOFer? yes. Top 100? Probably not. H2H any 154er? Good chance at winning or being competative with anyone @ 154.
I don't know. I think ATG should should be able to be used for any fighter who had a very good, HOF career. Sort of how it is in other sports. I think the ranking # is more in tune for All Time P4P. They seem to be interchangable here sometimes.
His fight with Quartey was a win. His record is 51-4-1. That's a pretty good record. His fight with Vargas should have been a win. I saw that fight, and Wright won that fight. As for the losses with Simon and Vasquez, I haven't seen those fights, but even great fighters have freak losses. Besides those happened a long time ago long before Wright develop his new style with the high guard defense and quick jabs. His loss to Hopkins should be made an exception since he did move up in weight to fight Hopkins.
It doesn't work that way, EX: as far as I'm concerned JMM has two wins over Pac but everytime I look at their records Pac has the "W"s!
You can look at Wright's record or Pac's record however you want. If you say Pac lossed to JMM twice, then so be it. The issue here is the Wright-Vargas fight. Watch that fight, and you'll see that he won it. You can even see it in Vargas' expression in his post-fight interview. He says he won, but if you look at his body language, you know he lossed. Vargas was caught surprised by Wright's slickness.
So basically, you only want his wins to count and more specifically his wins in the past 5 or so years. why didn't you just post his record as 51-0? I guess Hopkins's fans can say the Calzaghe loss was an exception because B-Hop was 43 at the time. Wink is good but not great - not HOF or ATG.
I'm assuming you meant to put "Vargas" and not "Quartey"? I'm a big Ike fan, and he definitely lost that circus fight against a much bigger man that ought never to have been signed. His only robbery loss lately was against Forrest.
Mosley I-II and Tito: fantastic wins. Taylor and Simon: close fights, Winky should've won. Vargas: controversial decision. Vazquez: a loss early in the career. Hopkins a close loss at LHW. Multi-time LMW champion, long undefeated rud, lineal and undisputed LMW champion, great defensive skills, great jab and some good wins vs. other big names during his career. Winky's first-class ticket to the HOF would be a win over Pavlik which IMO he can pull off... You see Pavlik is great but Winky's style is just bad for him and since Hopkins made Winky look bad, everyone started to write him off just like Tarver, Oscar and now Calzaghe...
His a good figher but unfortunately he doesnt have enough wins over top opponent to really be considered a Hall of Famer let alone an all time great.
Common man, theres no way Winky can pull off a win over Pavlik, not today nor a couple of years ago when he was in his prime. To beat Pavlik you have to have power, if Taylor was splitting Winky's guard so will Pavlik, except he will finish the job.
You are either seriously underestimating Winky's abilities or thinking too much of Pavlik. Kelly's a nice guy and a monsterous puncher with tremendous aggression based upon his very decent jab. However take away that jab or throw a better one/better timed, and he's in trouble setting up his great power punches. He can't fight backwards, easy to counterpunch and Winky is one damn good defensive genious also with very good straight punches followed by his jab. Pavlik beat Taylor and Miranda for a reason: he made them fight his fight and prevailed, that's why he's a legitimate P4Per. But styles make fights, and a guy like Winky, Kessler, Calzaghe, Hopkins and even Abraham can give him serious problems. Wheter he can find a plan B is an unanswered question. Pavlik probably beats an inactive, older Winky in 2008, but he never beats an active Winky IMO...
I think the majority of knowledgeable boxing fans would overwhelmingly pick Pavlik to win via KO. Styles do make fights and Winky doesn't necessarily have a style that would trouble Pavlik. Its not like he has great head movement that would allow him to slip Pavliks jab or respectable power that would stop Pavlik in his tracks , Winky just has a tight guard and the majority of his success has been against guys who were smaller than him. Pavliks almost 6'3, he throws straight accurate punches, has KO power as well as an outstanding work rate, theres just not much that Winky can do to stop Pavlik from doing what he does. The other fighters you mentioned arent Winky, im not saying Pavlik is unstoppable, but trust me, Winky will not win that fight.
