Winky Wright on Cotto vs Margo

Dont want to pick it but I can say its going to be one of the fights of the year & probably the fight that I have been looking forword to most in the last few yrs...........Its going to be a ****ing brahmer !!!!!!!!

 

You will be hard pressed to find a person that isn't Mexican and/or a Margarito fan that is picking Margarito in this fight.

 

And what do you think the % of Puerto Ricans pulling for Cotto will be:think

This can be tied-in with the thread on nationalism in boxing.

Puerto Ricans will root for Cotto
Mexicans will root for Margo
the rest of the world will be divided

De La Hoya and Kermit Cintron have picked Cotto as well.

 

Puerto Ricans will definately be heavily in Cotto's favor. However, the majority of neutral fans will pick Cotto.

Winky was in Puerto Rico on a business trip. Naturally, he was asked about the fight. I don't see what's wrong with him answering a question.

 

Yup :yep . . . because Marg is the guy who beat him up twice.

If Marg beats Cotto . . . that would somehow lighten the impact of his two loses to Marg.

 

All I want is to see him in the ring again. He's getting old and he is getting wasted.

 

I'm neither, and I have Margarito clearly winning this fight, hands down. If anything I'm a Cotto fan, but my need to pick outcomes correctly overrides that. I feel much more comfortable with Margarito's workrate and durability than I would Cotto's flashier moves and shakier chin.

Based on what has been posted on this forum, and anywhere elsewhere that I have personally seen, there is far more content and a much stronger overall body of argument coming from the people picking Margarito. They seem to have actual, logistical reasons behind their choosing, as opposed to the "Cotto is just a better fighter" line of argument being favored by the people picking Cotto.

 

Did he change it? :huh Because Cintron did pick Cotto at one point.

 

Well, the better fighter generally wins. I think people try to over complicate this sport. Cotto is faster than Margo, he is more skilled, he has good footwork, and he has a lot of heart. Margo can win by overwhelming Cotto and hoping the pressure is too much for Cotto to handle. If that doesn't work, he really has not other way to effectively fight Cotto. Margo can win this fight. However, Cotto is rightfully the favorite; which is why so many people are picking him to win.

 

It only be a great fight because no one really knows who will win
